You have all seen the final drawing above. Now, how did I get to the final? Get ready, I'm about to explain!
First of all I started out with a 2'x3' thumbnail sketch, I usually do more but I liked how the first one came out, so I stuck with it. |

Then I do one of two things, either blow up the thumbnail or just redraw it on a plain piece of 8.5x11 paper. You may find it helpful if you xerox copies of your full size11x17 comic board. That way you'll be able to draw your sketch perfectly to scale in this sketch.
Now that I have the sketch drawn in perfect scale, all I need to do is blow it back up to normal size, and trace it on a light table.
Almost any light table will do, as long as your confortable drawing on it. It's really up to you. I was fortunate enough to have an Uncle who could help me turn my drawing desk into a light table. It works great, I couldn't imagine doing drawings without it! It's been argued that using a light table is too slow. I find it a lot faster and cleaner.
Okay, so you need the right tools for the job, right? I used:
Lead-holder with 4H lead Assorted straight edges Triangles and templates Kneeded or vinyl eraser |
