Promoting your site is important if you want others to see what you have created. Getting listed in search engines and member pages is a great way to get traffic to your site. If you are with Geocities, first log into your account and do a member pages search on site like your own. Look at the location of the similar pages and decide if that is where you want your page listed. Once you are happy with the location, something like (Computers & Internet > Software > Web Design > Microsoft FrontPage) which is located right under Yahoo! Category Matches, then click on that link. On the next page you will see "List My Page Here", click on that link and follow the direction to list you page. Before you try to get listed in the popular search engines you need to add "META Tags" to your site. META tags are what true search engines use to match keywords typed into a search box with your site. Click on META Tags in the left navigation bar before you list your site with engines. Google was the easiest I found to get a successful listing outside of GeoCities. Go to the google homepage and in the top navigation bar click on "Directory." Go all the way to the bottom of the next page and click on "Submit a Site." Again, do a search for sites like your own and at the top of the page you want to be listed on click on "Add URL." Follow the direction closely and read all of the submission content.
