The State Race weekend was AWESOME, from Mother Nature finally giving us a break and keeping it nice at 80 degrees and sunny to the really great racing action in all the classes. We had 70 riders with a few of those riding in two classes. Congratulations to all those that did great at the race along with all of our new 2009 State #1's. It is great to see so many new faces along with the experienced riders having a great time in BMX.
Now for some Thank You's!
If has been a tough year again with a lot of rain all summer long, there are few folks that have come out and helped re-build the track after every rain we had this summer: Jeff Menster, Todd Kibsgaard, Christal Crotts, Mike Icenbice. Along with a few folks that came when they could: Tim Ferry, Todd Black (Awesome weed eater, :) ), Ed Leeson, Tim and Karen Ethrington. We can't forget the track building work from Scott Barber and Josh Trumblee through out the year!
One big job this year was from Bob Hodges and the building of the new announcing tower, AWESOME JOB!
This year we made some major improvements as well: Asphalted starting hill and finish line, new tower, covered staging area, storage container and sealing the track. We accomplished learning how to use Soiltac on track, with the help Amy Icenbice's dad, Max's grandpa, Mr. Gilliat. They helped spread the Soiltac two times this year with their pump/sprayer system. The others on the Soiltac crew where: Jeff Menster, Mike Icenbice and Todd Kibsgaard. We plan to repeat this every year as it saves a ton of work.
There are also those many volunteers that help at each race, from Rhonda Kibsgaard doing a GREAT JOB on concessions, Amy Icenbice handling registration to the many that help with staging or scoring: Karen Ethrington, Robyn Menster, Glen Henry, Todd Black, Todd Kibsgaard, Allen's on staging and scoring.
Also want to thank my contracted grass cutting group the Allen's as they kept the grass around the track and even outside the fence area by the trees looking great.
A big thank you to Christal Crotts as with out her keeping me motivated some things wouldn't have been completed this year. She is the right hand to the track operator making sure I stay in line.
Cedar Rapids BMX is Non-profit organization and every volunteer we have is needed. I appreciate all the time and work everyone has done for Cedar Rapids BMX, without you we would not be where we are today!!!
Thank you all for a great 2009 Season, we still have some Saturday racing to go, hope to see you at the track.
