PageMaker is one of the most advanced desktop publishing application software, which was developed by Adobe Company. In PageMaker program, we can create new publication or edit existing publication by opening with different PageMaker options. The files created in PageMaker take .p65 extension automatically.
            When you open the PageMaker you will be in PageMaker editing page. You can see a toolbox and control palette in the window. If it is not visible then go to the window menu and choose control palette to display the control palette or choose toolbox for displaying toolbox

     
           
   

Introduction of tools

     
   

Pointer tool: Use the pointer tool to select, move and resize text block and graphic. You can also double click on the pointer tool to open the preference panel where you can change the paper size

     
   

Text tool: Use the text tool to type the, select and edit the text. You can specify the typing area by dragging the mouse. Double click on text tool to display the character specification panel where you can edit the text.

     
   

Rotate tool: Use the rotate tool for rotating the selected object or graphic.

Crop tool:  Use the crop tool to trim the imported graphic

Line tool: Use the line tool to draw straight lines in any direction. Double click on the line tool to set custom stroke option.
Constrained line tool: It draws vertical to horizontal line.

Rectangle tool: Use rectangle tool to draw rectangle and square. Double click on the rectangle tool to choose the corner radius.

     
   

Frame tool: Use the frame tool to create a rectangle placeholder for graphic. Double click on the frame tool to set frame options

Ellipse tool: Use ellipse tool to draw ellipse and circle. Double click on the ellipse tool to set the fill and stroke option.

Ellipse frame tool: Use this tool to create the ellipse and circle placeholder for the graphic.

Polygon tool: Use this tool to draw the basic polygons. Double click on the polygon tool to set the polygon setting.

Polygon Frame tool: Use the polygon frame tool to create the polygon placeholder for graphics.

Hand tool: Use the hand tool to move the page.

Zoom tool: Use this tool to magnify or reduce an area of the page.

     
   

Color palette:
            When the color palette is not visible then go to the window menu and choose the window menu> color palette.

  1. Stroke button: Click on the stroke button to apply a color to the line on a rectangle, polygon, ellipse or frame.
  2. Fill button: Click the fill button to change the fill color of rectangle, polygon ellipse or frame.
  3. Both button: Click on the both button to apply the same color to both the stroke and the fill.
  4. Tint Percentage: Specify the tint percentage to make the fill color lighter.
  5. New color button: click on the add new color button and in a dialog box choose the color from the libraries.
  6. Delete button: Click the delete button to delete the selected color
 

Place:
            It imports the graphics in to the active publication.

  1. Click on the file menu
  2. Click on place command.
  3. Chose the required graphic.
  4. Click on open button.
  5. place the pointer at required place and click at mouse button
   
















 
   

File menu

Document setup:
            This is used to set up our document. This is the same as we do on the first. The dialog box appears and choose the appropriate set up. 
Print:
           
Used to print the page.
Choose print from the file menu
Choose the no of copies, paper orientation and other option from the dialog box.
After you are ready for the print then click on print

Edit menu

Paste:
           You can paste the copied element into many copies also or you can just paste a single times.

  • Type the text
  • Select the text
  • Go to edit menu and choose copy
  • Again go to edit menu and choose paste multiple
  • In a dialog box you can type the no of copy
  • Click on ok

 Select all
           Used to select all the content of the publication.
Clear:
            It is same as delete
Select the object and go to edit menu> clear
Deselect all:
            It is the opposite of select all. 

Layout Menu

Go to page:
           This command is used to go to the desired page. When you choose this option from the layout menu, then the dialog box appears and in the dialog box type the page no that you want to view.
Insert pages.
            This option is used to insert pages in your publication.  In the dialog appeared after you choose this option, type the no of pages that you want to insert and click on insert. 
Remove pages:
            This option is used to remove the unwanted pages permanently from the publication. Type the no of pages and through which page no that you want to remove and click on ok.  
Go back:
            To go to one page back from the current page. 
Go forward:
           To go one page forward from the current page.
Column guide:
            This is used to insert the no of column in your publication. The default column is 1 
Auto flow:
            When the auto flow command is on then movement of the pointer also shows the movement in the ruler.

Type menu

Font: choose the appropriate font from the list of the fonts
Size: Choose the appropriate size of the text.
Leading: It is for the line spacing. Choose the appropriate line spacing or leading
Type style: It is for the different font style like subscript, superscript, bold, italic etc.
Expert tracking: This is for the character spacing
