For the hard disk to be slave we should have to put the jumper inside it.

>Go to the windows XP backup
>Double click on the setup icon
>Click on Install windows XP
>Choose New installation (Advanced) from Installation type and click on next.
>Click on I accept the agreement radio button and again click on next.
>Type the product key and click on next.
>Click on Advance option and To this folder on my harddisk: Type D:\windows and click on OK and Next
Note: If you choose C:\windows then you will replace windows98 with Windows XP
>Click on No skip this step and continue installing window radio button and click on next.
>Wait for a few minutes.
>The computer will restart itself.
>In the Welcome to Setup page there comes a message

1. To setup windows press enter.
2. To repair a windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R
3. To quit setup without installing Window XP, press F3

>Press enter to setup the window XP.
>Again there comes the options.
C: Partition 1 [FAT 32]
D: Partition 2 [FAT 32]
E: Partition 3 [FAT 32]
And so on
>Choose D: Partition 2 [FAT 32]
>Again there comes the options
Format the partition using the NTFS file system (Quick)
Format the partition using the FAT file system (Quick)
Format the partition using the NTFS file system
Format the partition using the FAT file system
Convert the partition to NTFS
Leave the current file system intact <no changes>
>Choose the last one i.e. Leave the current file system intact <no changes> and press enter
>Again wait for the few minutes
>The computer will restart itself
>Again Wait for few minutes
>The Windows XP professional set up dialog box appears 
>Click on next.
>Type the name and organization and click on next
>Type the Administrator password and confirm password and click on next.
>Choose the country
>Type the area code.
>Wait for a few sec
>Again the computer will restart itself.
>Again click on next
>There appears a dialog box that contains the message
 Who will use this computer
Your name:
1^st User:
2^nd User:
3^rd User:
>Type your name and remaining leave it as it is.
>Click on next
