PART 17 (PG  - the Soulless One)

The snow had been falling for four hours, non-stop, it was cold. The meteorologists were going crazy trying to explain this squall. Everyone in Rupert Giles’ house knew what it was.

“So when should we be worried?” Willow asked as she paced back and forth.

“Relax Red, it’s only dusk, I’m sure they’re on their way back.” Spike said.

“I can’t relax, not with what Cordelia saw... we can’t just wait.”

“What else do you want to do Willow? He’ll kill us if we show up there.” Xander said. “Anya and I are going home. Besides, Buffy and him wouldn’t let that happen. Be positive.” They left.

“Fine, I’m going back to my room, maybe Buffy will go there first, or maybe there’s a message.”

            “I’ll walk you.”

            “Spike, I’ll be fine.”

“No, I told Buffy nothing would happen to you, and nothing will. Anyway, with impending doom as you like to call it, it’s best if you aren’t alone.”

“Fine, whatever.” They left and walked to the dorms. “Spike, I’m here, I’m safe, goodnight.”

“That’s it? You’re upset, you shouldn’t be alone, and what if he is him again, you shouldn’t be here by yourself. He might come looking for Buffy.”

“You do have a point, you just keep your distance.”

“Fine.” They walked into her room and she took off her coat. “God, now I know why I’m glad I don’t live in New York, I couldn’t take this.” She shook off her hair and went to the closet to pick out warmer clothes.

He took off his coat and left his boots by the door. He sat on her bed and watched her. Angel posed a good question? Did he love her? Could he? He had been searching his soul, or at least he would have if he had one. He didn’t know or understand how his emotions worked, or if they existed. He knew that he liked her, he knew that when he looked at her, he was mesmerized, enchanted by her. He wanted to kiss her again, but he had meant what he said, he would do nothing she didn’t want. He may have forced himself on other people, even on Dru, but he wouldn’t do that to Willow. God, maybe that was the proof he did love her. He thought about what it would be like if she were hurt and he hated the idea. When he thought of Oz, he wanted to kill him, how could he have left? Willow was amazing. She looked over her shoulder at him and he quickly looked the other way.

She smiled. Half of her way glad he looked the other way, it meant he wasn’t going to try anything. Half of her wished he would walk over and sweep her into his arms. Things were falling apart. Buffy was possibly dead by Angelus and the world was coming to an end. A tear began to fall as she thought of poor Buffy, realizing she had done it again, thinking of her being killed by the one person she truly loved. Love? What was it? She thought she had had it, she still loved Oz. She always would, but was her case as hopeless as Buffy’s? Was Oz the only person she would ever love? She didn’t know, but she wished he wasn’t. They were very different, her and Oz, from two different worlds. What was she thinking? She was here thinking about a vampire, at least Oz was more human. More tears.

He heard her crying, he ached for her, felt her pain. He had no idea what she was thinking about, but he felt bad. He stood up and walked over to her and tapped her on the shoulder. She spun around and grabbed him, crying into his shirt. He just held her. He moved them back slowly to the bed, so she could sit, maybe cry herself to sleep.

She went with him to the bed. She was weary, was he going to try something now? Before she may have been into it, but now? He wanted to take advantage of her but she was surprised. He got her to lie down and then put a blanket over her. She curled up underneath it and she closed her eyes, crying. She wasn’t sure for how long she cried, but she knew that he had been rubbing her forehead until she did.

PART 18 (PG - Arguing & Passion)

It had been six hours since she last ate and she was hungry. She looked at him and he stared back, watching her intently and she spoke “Okay.”

            “Okay what Buffy?”

            “I’ll take that rat.”

“I’ll go look.” He stood up and he walked off. “Stay here.” Her stomach churned and she was starving and thirsty. She wished it were as simple as blood, sustenance and drink all in one. He must be hungry by now too, did vampires get hungry? He was gone a few minutes and he returned carrying one.

“That was quick.”

            “I’m a good hunter.”

“I guess you would have to be.” She watched as he took the top off the lantern and held the rat above it. “On second thought, it doesn’t look as good now... I’ll wait for McDonald’s.”

“Buffy you have to eat something.”

“So do you, but you’re not complaining, I won’t either. I’m sure there have been people that have gone way longer than I have, like Gandhi, he went for like days without eating anything, by choice. I can too, anyway, my hips are a little big.”

“No they’re not, they’re perfect.” He shouldn’t have said that. He couldn’t take the conversation lower than that because that could be bad. He watched her nose scrunch up as the fur caught on fire. “Whoops!” He dropped it and let it go, it would cook quicker and she wouldn’t want the fur anyway.

He thought about Thanksgiving, the Morha demon, he had to be very careful if he fought one again. He couldn’t risk it. There was a lot he couldn’t risk. He thought it was done so he smothered it in his hands, it hurt a little, but it was for a good cause. He handed it to her. “Bon appetite.”

“Gee how can I ever thank you?” There are so many ways to do that Buffy. He wished he could tell her how she repay him. First she could rip off his clothes and kiss him over every square inch of his body, then she could... no she wasn’t going there. “Aren’t you going to have some?”

“How do you think I killed it?”

“Oh, right, breaking it’s neck would have cruel.” She bit into it, ironically, the saying was true, it did taste just like chicken.

            “Buffy, give me a break.”

            “What?”

“Every time you’re angry you bring up the vampire thing, it’s not fair, you don’t have to throw it in my face, I know what I am, God I know what I am and you don’t have to bring it up all the time.”

“I’m sorry. It’s just that most of our problems stem from the very fact that you are indeed a vampire. If only you weren’t... we cou...”

“If I weren’t you’d be dead. You’d feel you had to protect me, and it would get you dead. I don’t want that. Let’s just leave that topic alone.”

“Well... fine. I’ve been thinking a lot, what if we can just find a curse to counter the happiness curse? Then we cou...”

“I’d still be young forever, you’d still be the Slayer, and it still wouldn’t work and being together more would just make it harder to watch you grow old. You still wouldn’t have children... or a normal life... it’s just not meant to be. You shouldn’t have broken up with Riley. He cared about you.”

“What? You saw him hit me, and you’re gonna say that?” She jumped up tossing the rat aside. “Angel, you can’t even pretend to believe that, I can see it in your eyes.”

“Fine, but you need someone normal, you can’t keep comparing guys to me...”

“Angel, how can I not? You’re everything to me, I need you. And don’t even tell me that I’m being childish because I’ve grown up, I’m not some bratty sixteen year old in love, I’m a woman and I know what I want. I want you. You’re everything I ever wanted, you’re strong and compassionate, and loving and tender, and sue me if I don’t want to settle for the second best thing... would you want me to go through life only half caring about the life I had? The only life I want is with you Angel, no matter what the complications. That’s what I want.”

“Well, you can’t have what you want.”

“Well, it continues to be my wish.” She looked around, the lantern was almost out of oil, it would last another couple hours and then it would be dark. She sat back down. “So do you get hungry?”

“What kind of a question is that?”

“I’m curious, what else do we have to talk about?”

            “Yes. I do, of course.”

“Are you now?” He looked at her and she met his glare.

“I’m not going to answer that.”

            “Why not?”

“Cause I know what you’ll say after that.”

“Gee Angel is that all you think about? Blood?”

“Duh, I am a vampire... you’re so confusing Buffy... just don’t talk to me, we’ll be fine.” She stood up and started walking away. “Where are you going?”

            “I’m not talking to you.”

“Where are you going?” He stood up.

“Well, I have to keep the blood moving so I don’t freeze up, I’m going for a walk.”

            “Buffy, you could get lost.”

“Fine with me.” He grabbed her arm and pulled her back. He felt the surge of energy jolt through his body and he pulled her into him and leaned down to her lips.

PART 19 (NC17 - Cursed)

He brushed her lips with his and she parted them and moved her arms up around his neck, pulling him down to her. She opened her mouth and he plunged his tongue inside, touching and teasing her. Her taste washed over him and his hands moved down to her buttocks and grabbed her. She felt so good against him, she was so perfect, but he couldn’t.

“Buffy... we...” but she silenced his protests with a shower of kisses to him and he couldn’t control himself. He started falling forward and they slammed into the wall behind her. He kissed her neck and she was kissing any part of him that was near her mouth. She moaned as his hands found her breasts, hidden under her sweater. She moved her hands to her waist and lifted it off, she was wearing no bra. She moved her hands to his shoulders and pulled him down to her. His mouth found her nipples and suckled her, teasing and tickling. Heat waves surged through her body and she was sure she would orgasm even before he ever touched her any lower than her waist, it was that intense. She reached her hands for his shirt and pulled it off and kissed him all over.

“Buffy... we really shou....” she caught his lips once more as he tried backing away. She swung her leg out and caught his knees and he fell backwards and she jumped on top of him.

“Shhh.... just be quiet.” She moved her kisses down his belly and she unbuttoned his pants and her mouth was soon around him. He groaned as she sucked on him, licking and biting. He put his hands around her head and held her there. He came for her and she swallowed the dead rush he provided and she returned to his mouth. “See, that wasn’t so bad, was it?” She kissed him deeply and he fumbled for her jean zipper. He stopped.

            “Buffy, we can’t.”

“Angel, we’re going to die here, let’s face it, take me now, I want you, he’ll kill me and then he’ll waste away and we’ll be together forever.”

            “That’s not a solution.”

“Angel, it’s the only one I have and I’m cold, and this makes me warm and this is how I want to be warm. Are you going to deny me?” She kissed him again and his hands resumed their plight into her jeans. She slipped them off and he ripped her panties off and she fell on the ground next to him and he trailed his kissed from her neck down her navel to her core. She was swollen and wet. He looked down and blinked his eyes, he had seen what he saw. He looked up at her and she spoke. “It’s a monthly present for you I suppose.”

He looked down once more and he wanted it, he was hungry for it. He dove into her lapping up the blood, kissing and sucking on her. It was pure bliss. Bliss? He stopped but her hands were there and pushed him into her and he complied, she was strong and insistent.

She pushed his head in between her legs, as deep as it could go, she had to keep him there, take away the choice he wanted to make. His expert mouth worked his magic and his fingers played and went where his tongue could not. She closed her eyes and images flashed before them, of her and Angel in his apartment. She didn’t know what was happening, but she welcomed any dreams to wash over, they served to intensify her own pleasure.

She came and he lapped up those liquids too and she pulled his head up to her own and kissed him. God it felt so good and she didn’t care anymore, she would rather have this and die in an hour than not have it ever again. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect, how could he refuse? He was hungry. She knew he wouldn’t go any further than where they had, so she pushed him over and impaled herself on him and began moving. He tried to protest, but he couldn’t and she knew that. She had the control she wanted. She screamed and he did too, she pushed him further into her and when he came she was the warmest she had ever been. She fell onto him and he pulled the jacket over them. She started to cry. She realized what they had done. They had ended it.

PART 20 (PG - Waking Up)

She didn’t know what time it was when she woke up, but he was still there looking at her.

            “Morning.”

“Not exactly love, more like midnight.”

“Oh. Anything from Buffy or Angel?”

            “Nope.”

“Sorry I broke down like that, it’s not like me.”

“You’re worried is all. It’s understandable.” She took his hand and put it around her waist. He moved up onto the bed and lay next to her and held her.

            “Thanks.”

            “No problem.”

            “Spike?”

            “Mmm?”

            “What if the world ends?”

            “It won’t.”

            “Why not?”

            “It can’t.”

            “Why?”

“I won’t let it.” He said as he kissed her lightly on the forehead.

            “Why not?”

“Because I just found you and I’m not ready to die.”

            “I like that answer.”

            “Now go back to sleep.”

            “Will you stay here?”

“I have no place better to go.”

His eyes shot open and Buffy was lying next to him. He stood up and ran into the tunnels, he had to go. It was happening!

Buffy woke up, she heard footsteps. The lantern was out and she listened intently. He was somewhere. “Angel?” She said, rather weakly. She fumbled around and found her pants and put them back on and the sweater too. She found his jacket and put it on, she was cold again. She smelled it, it smelled like him, his cologne he liked, very masculine. She huddled up against the rock so he wouldn’t sneak up from behind, she thought she was, but she now realized she wasn’t ready to die, though she now feared she would.

PART 21 (NC17 - the Deal that Death Hath Made)

He walked back through the tunnels, vamped out, it felt good. He made his way back to the altar room, he supposed it was. He heard chanting coming from it. How was that possible? He looked in and there were ten Morha demons there, in a semi-circle around the picture. The candles were lit. He listened, it was in Latin. Too bad he had never paid attention in school, he could read it a little, but couldn’t understand a lick of it.

One of them turned his way and let out a scream. Three of them grabbed him and threw him in the center of the circle. “What do you want interloper?”

            “Hey, I’m here to help.”

            “Help?”

“Yeah, End of Days, I’ve heard about it, heard it might be happening again, I can think of nothing better to do than to wipe out all of humanity, they really are a plague on the planet, don’t you think?”

“The End of Days includes you too, lower being.”

“Watch it, I take offense to that.”

“Well... why would we want you?”

“Maybe you’ve heard of me,” he extended a hand, “Name’s Angelus. Yours?” No one moved.

“We’ve heard of you, the vampire with a soul, you help people, you killed one of our relatives.”

“What can I say, I was going through a phase. Look, I don’t want to die, I like it here, and I'll like it even more once we get rid of the scum of the Earth. I just want to help and be in a safe place when the plague or whatever comes.”

“Again, why would we want you?”

“Cause I know of a girl who can stop this whole thing, the Slayer. I know exactly where she is, and I know exactly what she knows of you guys. She’s been here... in here, probably figuring out exactly what’s going on, right now. She has the power to stop it, she’s strong and you need my help. You need me on the inside, to bring you back the scoop.”

“So what, we save you from the End of Days and you get her out of the way?”

“Consider her gone.” They all looked around, to confer with each other.

“Deal. Bring us her heart, and we’ll get you out.”

“Deal.” He turned to walk away, “By the way, how did you guys get in here?” They pointed behind him and he saw a door, of course, a hidden entrance. He should have known that. “Great, well, one Slayer’s heart coming up, what kind of time frame are we talking?”

            “A day.”

            “Done.”

He walked back, he was sure they were following him, good, he smiled. He inhaled the sweet aroma of her and took all the right turns. When he got back, he could see her huddling by the side of the wall. “Can you see me?”

            “You scared me.”

“That’s the point, isn’t it?" He looked at her covered in his jacket, scared. "BOO!” He jumped in front of her, his vision was great, hers was not, it was his advantage.

“What are you going to do?”

“Kill you. Wasn’t that what you wanted?”

“It was. But now it’s not.”

“Too bad Buff, you said in the heat of the moment, forget the curse, and now here I am again... you wanted me, you got me babe.” She stood up and he pushed her into the wall. “You know Buff...” he pressed his nose into her cheek, “Smell the fear... it’s the best... makes the blood sweeter.”

            “So do it.”

“Aren’t we Miss-Change-Her-Mind... it’s been so long since I’ve been with a woman Buff, well not that you really qualify... but....” He had to do it, he knew it. “I guess you’ll do.” He ripped her sweater off and he bit into her skin and sucked the juice it provided. She screamed.

            “Angel, please no!”

“Should have said that last night.”

They listened from a distance, she was here, they were beginning to like him. He would still die, just like the others, no half-species would be spared, but at least she’d be out of the way. They left him to his work.

PART 22 (PG14 - Surprise and Escape)

He pushed her jeans out of the way and pushed into her. “Angel...” He couldn’t smell them anymore, they had left. He jumped up. “Angel?”

“Buffy, you have to get out of here. There’s a special door, in the room with the candles, I think it leads out, you have to get out of here.”

“I don’t understand Angel, Angelus, whatever, what are you saying?”

“Buffy, you have to believe me, I don’t know if I am going to or not, but...” he leaned in and whispered to her, “I haven’t lost my soul yet... I don’t know if I will, so it’s even more important you leave. I made a deal with them, told them I’d rip your heart out if they spared me when the End of Days comes, but you have to get out, pretend you fought me and ran, the door is on the wall right behind the picture. I’m sorry for...” She leaned up and kissed him. “I’ll get you to the room. Come on.”

They held hands and practically jogged down the tunnels. She knew it wasn’t time to get into it, she didn’t understand, the hope of him not being cursed? It was too much. All of a sudden he fell to the ground, to his knees, doubling over in pain.

            “Angel?”

“Buffy, go, get away...” he fell. She ran. She got to the room quietly. She entered and there were nine of them in a circle, they seemed entranced, chanting. She snuck to the door and there were stairs, she took them, so many of them, she had no idea where they led, she couldn’t see. She just kept going... she had no idea what was happening, but she had to get away from this place. She was cold, luckily she still had his jacket. The stairs stopped and there was a long tunnel, she must have been running down stairs for an hour or two at least. The tunnel seemed endless and she saw a faint light at the end. Suddenly it was blocked and she was attacked.

She fought back but this was a big demon. He slashed her hand and she was pissed.  She took out a knife and stabbed it and then she felt liquid ooze onto her hand and she remembered how Angel had killed the demon in his office. She took out the knife and stuck it into the 'eye' on his head and he vanished. She ran for the light, she felt different, stronger. She was hungry though and she ran to the light. To her surprise the ground was covered in snow, it was falling, the End of Days had begun. Where was she? She didn’t know, but at least she was safe from Angel here. He was gone now, she had to save her heart, she had to run.

She saw a car coming down the road and she put out her hand and it stopped. “Buffy?” The woman said as she rolled down the window.

“Cordelia? What are you doing here?”

“Get inside... we’ll talk later, are you okay?”

“No, I’m very much not okay.”

            “Is he...”

            “Yes, he is.”

“That’s why I’m here, I had a vision and I decided to come up to the caves myself, it’s been slow going with the snow and all, but at least it’s light for a change.”

            “What do you mean?”

“It’s been dark for 25 hours now, and it’s finally light.”

“It won’t be for long Cordelia. You got any food?”

“Actually, I grabbed some snacks at the last gas stop, they’re in the back, I figured you might need comfort food.” She grabbed the bag and devoured what she had. They got back to Sunnydale in three hours, the roads were horrible and no one was used to snow removal.

“I need new clothes. Let’s go to my room.” They pulled up and they both went into the dorm. They opened the door and were shocked.

“Ewww... and I thought the vision of Buffy and Angel was bad...”

“BUFFY!” Willow jumped up. “We were just sleeping. Buffy are you okay?” She looked down at her sweater it was torn and bloody. “What happened?”

“From the looks of it love, Angel happened, or rather Angelus happened.” She looked at them.

“I just want to shower and change, then I’ll talk.”

She had that look in her eye, Willow knew it. It was Angelus look, only Buffy knew what had happened and she couldn’t talk about it right now.

PART 23 (PG - the Cleansing)

She let the water run over her body and felt her stomach, her new scars from him, he had bitten hard, it had hurt. Why would he have done that if he hadn’t been evil yet? It made no sense, but he was evil now, she had seen him fall in pain, like what he had described it was like. She had caused it once again. She would have to kill him, after the End of Days, for now she should keep her distance. She cried thinking of him on top of her, forcing himself, when he wasn’t evil. She didn’t want the water to stop, but she had to find out how to stop the snow. They went to Giles where she explained everything, getting stuck; being cold... she did leave out some details. She had disappointed everyone, she had disappointed herself. Inside she was telling herself: at least she had one more memory of him inside her, to get her though her life. This to accompany the memory soon to come, she would have to kill him.

“I could try and curse him again.” Willow offered.

“How many times will that work? Anyway, are we better off? We’re still miserable. We just need to figure out how to stop the End of Days, Angel will come later. Any ideas Anya?”

“Actually, the blood of an immortal person will stop it, the blood of an immortal person, the End of Days is to annihilate humanity. If there is one person that can escape that, and his or her blood is spilled on the altar before the march, it will end, it can’t take place.”

“Great, anyone happen to have an immortal person lying around?”

“What about a vampire?” Willow suggested.

“Willow, a vampire may have the body of a person, or in some cases the emotions and memories of the person, but it is a demon at the core.”

“Well, where do we get an immortal person?”

“Why don’t I just go there and start killing these guys?”

“Can’t we have some mass execution?” Xander asked. “Invite them over for pizza and kill them all?” They all looked at him, “Anyone got a better idea?”

“Roll over and die?” Buffy asked. “Let’s face it, we can’t end this. Where do we find an immortal person?” Just then the door opened and Angel came sauntering in. “Great! Right on time.”

“Buffy? I need to talk to you.”

“Right, so you can rip out my heart? Good news, that’s already done. Don’t worry about it.” Angel approached her and Spike stepped in.

“You want her, you’ll have to go through me.”

“Protecting the Slayer, Spike? That’s awfully nice of you, I’ll remember it.” He pushed him out of the way and Spike came back and tried to punch him but fell backward clutching his head in pain.

            “BLOODY HELL!”

“Buffy... your blood...” she looked at him, his eyes weren’t the same, they weren’t filled with hate like she remembered, but he had fallen. “Buffy, your blood can stop it... you have to get to the caves.”

            “What?”

“You have to believe me... the march starts in nine hours... you have to get there... come on...” he reached out for her hand and Spike again stepped in. Angel vamped out and turned to Spike, “BACK OFF!” Spike complied, he couldn’t do anything.  “Buffy, let’s go...”

“But you... you fell... you told me to leave...”

“I know, I can explain, but we don’t have time... we have to get going... we have to stop it.” He again put out his hand and she took it.

“AND YOU’RE GOING WITH HIM BECAUSE... YOU’RE INSANE!?” Xander asked. “Since WHEN were you immortal, he’s pulling your leg, it’s a joke.”

He morphed back and looked into her eyes, she knew the truth, she didn’t understand it, but she knew. “Buffy, your blood mixed with the Morha’s right?” She nodded. “You’re immortal now, big news flash I know, but it’s true.”

            “But how?”
“Their blood carries eternity, the blood of eternity.”

“Oh like when you were human Angel?” Spike asked and then realized what he had said, Willow looked at him, she was not happy.

            “What?”

“We don’t have time, I’ve got a four wheel drive out in front, I’ll explain on the way, we’ve gotta get you there... let’s go...” He grabbed her hand and pulled her outside, it was dark now. There was three feet of snow now. “It’d be better if we had a snowmobile, but I guess this will do.”

Just then she remembered Giles’ neighbor liked going to Colorado for the winter, she was pretty sure he had a snowmobile. “Angel... Giles’ neighbor...”

“Right.” He jumped out of the car and ran to the garage and lifted it up.

            “Okay, breaking and entering works.”

“Buffy you have to go in, it’s part of the house, I’m not invited.” She went in and luckily the keys were in there, it had probably been out before. They jumped on, the tank was full, they would have to stop a few times for gas, but it was surely quicker than the truck, they went, she held onto his waist tightly as they sped to the mountains.
