PART 24 (PG - the Beginning of the End)

It was still dark when they made it to the tunnel where she had escaped. He hadn’t been able to explain things to her on the way, it was too loud. She was cold, but she wanted this over with. He took her hand and they walked into the caves together. They got to the stairs.

“Great, it’s going to take all day to get to the top.”

“Not necessarily.” He picked her up and jumped and they leapt up five flights of stairs.

“Cool, you’re handy to have in a pinch.”

“What can I say?” They continued this until they were almost near the top, he stopped and let her down. “Be quiet now... we’re close, I can smell it, got your knife?”

“Yes, what’s the plan?” She whispered.

“I go in first, they still think I’m with them, I’ll go in and distract them, you try to sneak in, get to the circle as soon as you can and cut your wrist.”

            “Good plan, hope it works.”

“It has to, and remember, you can’t die.”

“Good to know.” He went to leave and she pulled him to her for a gentle kiss, she released him and he vamped out, she rubbed his cheek and he left. She waited a minute and ran in. There were five near the circle and they saw her. She ran past them and got into the circle and raised the knife to her wrist.

“NOT SO FAST GIRL!” One of the demons screamed, she looked up and they had a stake at his heart. “I think we have something you want, get out of the circle.”

            “Do it buff...”

            “Angel...”

“Buff do it! Are you chicken? Do it! Come on, don’t go soft on me now!” She didn’t know what was happening , but she sliced her wrist and the blood came pouring out onto the floor, she stood there, letting it gush, and nothing happened. They still had Angel and they weren’t disappearing... he had tricked her!

PART 25 (PG - the End of the End)

She looked at him and they let him go and he was laughing. She began to cry, and she fell to the ground, she was going to die, and everyone else would too. It was her fault for trusting him yet again. He walked to the circle and took out something from his pocket. He put it in her hand, “Open it.”

She did, what did she have to lose? And it fell to the ground and if she had been outside, she would have seen the sky open. The rumbling came and she blacked out.

When she came to, she saw three candles, she was in the room still, she had been hoping it was a dream. She looked around, there were no demons anymore, which had to be good. She heard footsteps and she tried to sit up but she couldn’t, she was weak.

“You’re up! I was wondering when that would happen.”

“Angelus…” she tried to get up again, she had to protect herself. “What do you want?”

“First of all, that’s not my name.” He walked to her and handed her a bag. “Open it.” He sat down next to her. She opened it, it was mint chocolate chip ice cream.

“I’m really confused and I’m dizzy. What happened?”

“I tricked you, I had to, to get you to do it, you wouldn’t have otherwise.”

“So you never lost your soul?”

            “No.”

            “And the End of Days?”

“Averted until another Ascension... and the snow is gone too.”

“I’m still confused. Explain it to me step by step.”

“Okay, I woke up and I heard chanting so I followed it.  I got to the room so I vamped out and pretended, got them to trust me. They followed me to you so I had to pretend to hurt you so they would leave, so I could get you out. Then I had to stay on the inside so I could try to stop it, so I fell on purpose and pretended. You left, they told me about the fight you had with the tenth guy, they’d felt it... something, I don’t know and they told me that you were now the key and we had to keep you away. So I left, but as I left I overheard them say that her blood and holy water would end it. So I got some and I got you there but you were thinking about not doing it cause they had me, so I had to make you do it. You blacked-out and they poofed away and I left you to sleep and I got some of our ice cream.”

            “Our ice cream?”

            “Oh... whoops.”

“Spike said you were human? When was that?”

“I can’t tell you that Buffy.”

            “So what, I’m immortal now?”

“I don’t know... we should go see the Oracles to find out if everything here is permanent now, my soul, your life... we should...”

“Go... you said that...” she leaned to him and tried to kiss him but he turned away. “I suppose I’ll settle for some of that ice cream.”

            “That’s why I brought it.”

She grabbed it and he pulled a spoon out of his pocket. “Amazing, you think of everything.”

            “What can I say?”

“So, you can like eat food, it just doesn’t taste very good, right?”

            “Buffy...”

            “I’m just curious...”

            “It’s like vegetables.”

            “Huh?”
“You know when you’re a kid, you hate eating vegetables but your mom made you? Well, food is like vegetables and blood is like ice cream.”

“Yum.” She looked up at him. “What’s chocolate like?”

“Like an apple, good but not quite good enough.”

“So are we going to share this, or are you just going to watch me pig out?”

            “I’m going to watch.”

“Guess an ice cream headache would be lost to you, you’re already cold.”

“An ice cream headache? What’s that?”

“It’s like you get this really big glob of ice cream and eat it as quick as you can and it shoots this sharp pain through your head.”

“And you do this for fun?”

“No, but it’s kinda cool when it happens.” She ate the whole half-gallon and she stood up. “Okay, let’s walk down the stairs, I gotta get my exercise now.”

“We don’t need the stairs, the ice is gone from the entrance, we can go that way.”

“Right, that’s even better, what about the car?”

“It’s like the ice and snow never happened, it just poofed away.” She took his hand and they walked to the car.

PART 26 (PG14 - The Beginning)

“So Buffy is fine... good... and you’re on your way to LA to check with the Oracles... call me when you find out... okay, bye.” She hung up the phone and sat on her desk. “Buffy is fine and Angel says to say thank you to you.”

            “Why?”
“For standing up for Buffy, even though you slipped about the whole normal day thing.” He walked over to her and she wrapped her arms around his waist.

            “Know what?”

            “What?”

“I was going to kidnap her and tell her about it.”

            “What?”

“That was the plan, I was going to hurt her, I wanted to... but then you and I started to happen, and it’s not important to me anymore.”

“Why Spike, if I didn’t know better, I would think you were starting to like Buffy.”

“I will never admit to that.”

“Oh come on...” she sat up straight and pulled his lips to hers and kissed him. “If you admit it, I’ll let you take me over to my bed.”

“Okay, I like Buffy.” He lifted her up and carried her over to her bed and placed her gently down. He leaned over her and tried to kiss her but she turned away.

“That’s it, I’m here, go away.”

“Funny.” He said as he lay on top of her and she laughed.

“I’m a funny girl. So what are we doing here Spike? We’re doomed from the start you know.”

            “Not really...”

            “How so?”

“I don’t know, but let’s look at it as an adventure.”

“Okay. Sounds good, one day at a time.”

“One night at a time would be better for me.”

            “One night then.”

PART 27 (PG - the Knowing Ones)

“Hard to imagine this all covered in snow.”

            “I know.”

            “So where are we going?”

            “The Oracles.”

            “Why?”

“Because.” Why did he do this? It drove her crazy.

“You know, I might be looking for more of an answer than that.”

“Sorry.” She looked out the window. She glanced over at him; he had been really quiet since they left the cave. They had walked through where they had made love. She smiled at the memories, ones she may have to live with forever. Forever? Was it a joke? What would she do? She had so many questions. She didn’t want to be the Slayer forever; she just wanted to be with Angel. She put her hand on his. She noticed his ring; he still wore it, pointing inward.

He couldn’t talk to her, he wanted to tell her about Thanksgiving, but he couldn’t. He wanted to know what the Oracles would say, was she immortal? Was it permanent? She would never die? What of the curse? Was his soul something permanent too? Did this mean they could be together? He was still a vampire and she was still the Slayer, but given those two conditions, it might be able to work. He felt her hand on his, her finger rubbing over his ring and he knew hers was there too. He smiled. He had to get to the Oracles to get the answers he hoped they would give.

            “Angel?”

            “Yes?”

            “Nothing.”

            “What?”

“It’s just that I get this feeling that you’re hiding something, avoiding, whatever, something big. Is it because we... I mean don’t worry about what happened in the cave, I mean you being mean... but I understand and I’m okay.”

            “It’s not that.”

            “Angel?”

            “Yes?”

“Even if things are the way they were, if my being immortal isn’t permanent... I’m glad we did.” he didn’t respond. “I said I’m glad we did, not just because it kept me from freezing, but because it’ll never be over and if I have to live the rest of my life with the only two memories of us together, then I’ll live and never forget. I’ll never forget Angel.” Deja vu. She had said that once before, she had promised but she didn’t mean it, she had lied to him, he could forgive her that lie, she had no choice.

Deja vu, twice now with those words, and how had he known she loved mint chocolate chip ice cream. She remembered what Spike had said but she didn’t understand and Angel wouldn’t talk about it. Spike had been lying, he had never been human, it wasn’t possible. She took her hand off his, it was best not to hope for something that might not happen. She wanted to change the subject.

“You know... when faced with the possibility of Angelus coming back... I was kind of looking forward to it, in a sick twisted way.” He turned to her and then looked back to the road.

“Why’s that? What could possibly be good?”

            “The pants.”

“What?” He smirked, he knew what she was talking about.

“The leather pants, I loved them. How come you never wore them before?”

            “Because... I don’t know, they’re not me.”

            “Angel, they are SO you.”

“I liked yours too, they drove me crazy.”

“I know, that was the point.”

“I know it was Buffy, I know. We’re here.”

“Fun fun fun... let’s go!” She stepped out of the car that was strategically parked in the shadow of a tall building, the post office. “The post office?”

“Yeah, weird I know, but... ready?” He extended a hand to her and she took his, their fingers interlocked and they went down a tunnel and stairs until they entered a dark room. He threw some dust into the cauldron and lit a match. “We beseech access to the knowing ones.” The door opened, and filled the room with bright light. “Come on, we’re in.” He took his cell phone out of his pocket.

“Welcome lower being...” she said. Buffy looked at the two people who were waiting there, their skin sparkled and she was instantly taken with them.

            “You’re the Oracles?”

“We are.” he said. “What have you brought us?” Angel held up the cell phone and it flew into her hand.

“I like this... humans are so peculiar, always wanting to call someone, but never walking to their house... odd in a way. What do you want?”

“This is the Slayer and we need to know what happened?”

“Ah yes, in the caves...” he said smiling, “you remember that which happened to you.”

“Yes, but what did it do to Buffy?”

            “The blood of eternity.”

“Was it the Powers that Be that did this?”

“The End of Days was stopped.”

“So what, am I immortal now? I’ll never die? Is that what you’re saying?”

“What was done, was meant to be. What was meant to be will be forever more.”

“Yeah, well other things were done that weren’t meant to be...” he said.

“Angel, what are you talking about?” she looked at him.

“Ah, yes... the forgotten day...” the female walked over to Buffy and placed her hand on her head, “is not forgotten anymore.”

Her hand touched her forehead and a million images flashed in front of her, ice cream, fighting, being in Angel’s kitchen, breaking his table making love, hearing his heartbeat. She gasped! “Angel...” she fell to the ground sobbing.

            “What?” he said.

“It was done and was meant to be.”

“So what about my soul? Is it permanent?”

“You answered your own question in the caves.”

“So she will never die? Can she have children? She should have a normal life, she shouldn’t be the Slayer forever, that’s not fair.”

“You amuse us lower being... whatever happens you are never happy, perhaps that was the root of your problems before. You never wanted to be happy, you don’t think you deserve it, but what is meant to be is done and when one door closes others open.”

“But she shoul...” Angel went over to Buffy and helped her to her feet.

“Angel, shut up…” She grabbed his hand and pulled him towards the door and looked back at the Oracles, “Thank you... tell the Powers that Be thank you...” she pulled him out the door and it closed.

            “Buffy, what are you doing?”

“Angel, we’re going back to your place.”

            “Why?”

“Because I always get my way and I want to have sex.”

PART 28 (PG14 - Making Plans)

“So, what does one do when one is immortal?” She asked. His hands cupped her breasts and their legs were entangled under the sheets.

“Well, one might consider locking themselves in a room with a handsome guy and...”

“You think you’re handsome do you? Awfully sure of yourself for someone who hasn’t seem himself in a mirror in like 200 years.”

“Not true, I saw my reflection before when I was human.”

“Oh right. I can’t believe you asked the Oracles to do that.” She hit him.

“Hey! It worked out didn’t it? If I had been human, I wouldn’t have gone to the caves with you, Spike probably would have and you don’t want to go there.”

“No I don’t. I prefer my men a little less evil, apparently it doesn’t bother Willow though.”

“Yeah, that’s just bad to think about.”

“I don’t know, I guess he’s cute, if the bad boy thing turns you on.”

            “It works for you.”

“Just the pants.” She smirked. “So... I’m hungry, let’s go out for dinner.”

“Yeah, cause I hear restaurants have vampire specials...”

            “Funny.”

            “I’m a funny guy.”

“I guess, let’s go to a club then, I wanna dance.”

            “I don’t dance.”

“Then you can watch me.” She twisted around and placed a kiss on his lips.

            “Okay.”

He grabbed the pants from the back of the closet, if they were going club hopping, he wanted to blend, and maybe if she saw him in the pants, she wouldn’t want to go. He heard her clear her throat and he turned around to face her.

He gasped and had a hard time not jumping over the furniture to grab her. She wore a burgundy dress, it was a mix of silk and satin, he was sure. It fit her curves perfectly, tight around her tiny waist, accentuating her breasts, pushing them upward; her nipples showing through the fabric. She couldn’t be wearing a bra with this dress and that mere fact turned him on even more. His eyes fell down her and once at the waist it flowed out slightly and he could see high-heeled shoes to match. The dress had two spaghetti straps that held it on.

“You like?” She asked as she walked over to him, scanning him. He put on the pants for her; they fit him so well, accentuated his luscious ass, which just begged for her hands. She walked to him and he leaned down and kissed her gently.

“I like, very much so.” He lifted her up to him and she felt him pressing into her.

            “Apparently so.”

He smirked, “Let’s not go out, let’s stay here.”

“I want to go out, but I’ll tell you a secret.”

            “What?”

She leaned up to his ear and whispered into it, “I’m not wearing anything under this dress.”

“All the more reason to stay.”

            “Now now, patience is foreplay.”

            “Since when?”

“Since now. Let’s go before you can’t control yourself anymore.”

            “I can’t control myself now.”
