Attack of the Clans
A Dime A Dozen
Wanna join AoA? Perhaps ETC? How about BLZAE or even SuckEit? Chances are, they're all looking for you and everyone else to establish themselves. Maybe you're better off on your own...

Ants organizations, guilds, clans, groups, call em what you want. When I first started playing I knew that only select people were good enough, personable enough, and liked enough to wear those tags. They meant something and others respected them. I wanted to be a part. But that was when it truly meant something to be a part of the clan system in Ants. And I think this as I look into the front end of Ants, watching tons of players shout out to anyone listening, "WHO WANTS TO JOIN ?" or "CLAN TRYOUTS IN Room 56!" Newbies? Perhaps... But lets get down to reality; these people are not experienced players, at least when compared to so many.

So what can be made of this nonsense shouting in the front end and new clan tags appearing each day? It's pretty obvious to understand the nature behind such an explosion of clans. It's a mix between desire to be a part of the top and wanting to fit in. Because lets face it, when it comes to clans in Ants, everyone's doing it. Baaaaaa... we're all sheep.

It's like watching Goose eject out of his F-14 during an intense scene in Top Gun. You know he's about to die. And if you're a newbie clan leader, just sit down and wait, because you've got a 90% chance of failure. For every OA and Combat that has made a name out of nothing, there are a hundred others that have created a nifty web page, recruited members, then died a week later.

Ask yourself: would you rather spend a couple months honing your skills, making friends, becoming an icon in the community. Or would you rather create a new clan and turn it into an icon over long months of dedication and practice? Both are desirable in the greatest way.

Our problem is that too many people are opting for choice number 2 and doing a poor job at it. If only more people would try to make a name for themselves through their screen name, rather than an unknown clan tag. And until we get some balance in the two paths, clans will continue to mean nothing. And Ants will continue to lose a defining characteristic.
