Mantids
Breeding mantises
supplies needed: for the mantises, you need a cage. At LEAST  6 x 6 x 6 (inches) length x width x height. sometimes at night, the mantis gets really ressless and wants to come out of its cage. usually, it is best just to keep it in a pretty large cage. just so it has enough room to roam around. the cage needs to have some ventilation to prevent disease, and so the air can flow in an out. make sure to put plenty of twigs and branches in the tank. this is so the mantis can have enough stuff to climb on. do not make the cage too crouded or the mantis might die it is best to put part of an egg cartton in, or some kind of material that crumplse up on the bottom of the cage. preferably toylet paper. this is to prevent mantises from falling on to there backs and dying. I have had many mantises die from this cause.
your mantis needs some kind of source of water. take a couple of cotton balls and tape it around the cage. if you don't have cotton balls. take an old mister and spry the side of the cage. if your mantis is large enough, you may spray it directly with the mister. If you mantis is a hachling or is smaller than L3, just spray the side of the cage. if you do this, the water needs to evaporate within 30 minutes. if it is past, and you don't change the ventilation, the mantis will die.
for humidity, you need a humidity gauge. this is VERY important. if you don't know the humidity, the humidity may not be right and the mantis will have a bad molt or become deformed. keep the cage in a spot that is humid and warm. DO NOT put the cage in dirct sunlight because the cage might over heat and the mantis may cook!
get a thermometer gauge for this also.
1. cage at least 6 x 6 x 6 inches
2. twigs an branches
3. mister
4. humidity gauge
5. thermometer
