Breeding
Breeding

Ok, so now your mantis has made it all the way to adult hood and you decide you want to breed.
The first thing you need to do is find two of your most fitist mantises, ones who are very energetic and not too old, and are healthy. 2 males and 1 female. You need to keep the males in 2 separate tanks after they molt for 2 or 3 weeks. the female needs to be in a tank for 2 or 3 weeks also.
When the time has past and those weeks are over, then it should be time to breed. You should always introduce the female into the males cage, all because the male is familiar to his surounding and knows how, and when to jump onto the females back. Or, if they were together ever since they were hatchlings, you can just keep them together without any worries of canibalism. This is a nother way of breeding. before you breed, feed the female a lot of food. A couple of days prior to molt to prevent the female eating the male after mating.
if you dont want this to happen, then, put a bunch of egg cartons all over the ground with a lot of crickets, when they are done mating, the female will be too distracted to attack the male.
you should always breed the female twice with 2 different males to ensure fertility.

Oothecas

Now your female has breeded and now is going to lay an ooth. all you need to do is make sure the temp is the correct level, the humidity is right, and there is plenty of food for when the mantises hatch.

Hatchlings

the hatchlings can be quite hard, depending on the species. some need small insects such as springltails, or aphids. Some need fruit flies, and some need pinheads.
give your mantis whatever it looks best with.
sometimes, you should ask a breeder what is right.
tell him what species you have, he should know.
when your mantises hatch, dont be alarmed if the mantises dont eat for a couple of days, this is normal, after a few days your mantis will want some food.
make sure to have plenty of food. if there is not enough food, then your mantises may eat each other.
then you will have too keep them in separate tubs.
male sure the enclosure is not too big, I usually take old milk cartons for my hatchling mantises.
they work REALLY well. try not to get a cage with mesh all around the sides. the food can easily crawl in and out of the holes. you can buy fabric at a fabric store, the stuff they use for wedding gowns, it is perfect!
