To start I will share a recent poem, of which there are very
few (recent poems, that is) that I wrote thinking about the pleasure of
having children.
She saw me writing and asked: 'wha-cho-doin' 'Writing' said I. She climbed up onto my lap She sees the pencil in my mouth, says 'Wha-cho-chewin' 'Not chewing' said I, 'Trying to use my thinking cap.'
She tickles my cheek with a butterfly kiss. I ask for a hug, she says 'Can't - must go and play' Softly I smile and begin to reminisce She'll come back when I start writing my essay. When reflecting on such pleasure then one can only say that there must be a God who is creator to have allowed the experience of such emotions. If children are so beautiful, why do we abuse them? A few years ago I gave a name to my poetry collection: PORTRAITS The saying goes that 'A Picture Paints a Thousand Words' and I realised that 'A Few Words Can Paint a Picture' too.
