Cradle of Texas Chorus
Sweet Adelines International
Sweet Adelines was organized in 1945 to teach and train its members in musical harmony and appreciation.  One goal was to create and promote barbershop quartets and other musical groups:another goal was to give public and private performances for learning and general appreciation of all things musical.

Today, Sweet Adelines International is a worldwide organization of women singers committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education and performance.
Sweet Adelines Internationals "Young Women In Harmony" program teaches emerging voicesthe skills, joys and rewards of performing and singing four-part harmony, barbershop style, delivering both musical excellence and education while giving young women singers the joy of performing this American vocal music art form.

The Young Singers Foundation was created by Sweet Adeline International in 1992.  The Foundation's purpose is to enrich the lives of young people through educational programs in vocal music, scholarships, grants to school-based music programs and funding to after-school and community vocal activities for young people.

BARBERSHOP HARMONY TODAY
Barbershop harmony requires four voice parts: lead, tenor, baritone and bass.  One of the distinctive qualities of barbershop harmony is that the melody, sung by the lead voice, is below the tenor harmony.  This follows the pattern of many early American hymns written for men and women, with the melody of the hymn in the male tenor voice and the woman singing harmony above the melody.  Today barbershop harmony has evolved into a highly stylized art form requiring as much quality and control as is necessary for singing any other type of choral music.
