DVDs to VHS:
The fastest and simplest ways to backup your dvd. Although tape is not as durable as cds, they are still are very popular and make a good medium to backup your favorite movies.

DVDs to VCDs: UPDATED! The most popular ways to backup dvds. You will generally need 2 disks for a single dvd movie. Each disk can store up to 74 or 80 minutes of movie depending on the size of the disk. The vcd can be playback on vertically all standalone dvd player and pc cd-roms. The video quality is of vhs quality, sometimes a little bit better. The sound is of cd quality.

DVDs To SVCDs: UPDATED! Almost the same with vcd but with higher quality video. Video quality is similiar to svhs. Cannot be play on some standalone DVD player unless stated on the dvd player itself. You can only store between 45 to 60 minutes of video on a disk. So for some dvd movie you will need 3 disk. Enter DVDs to SVCDs guide
DVDs To XVCDs: This is an excellent variation for those who cannot play svcd on their dvd player. Xvcd is almost the same as Svcd but uses an mpeg1 video stream. Highly recommended for those of you that have Sony standalone DVD players (or other DVD players that support the VCD standard, but NOT SVCD), and you want better quality than VCD. DVD to DIVX: The newest method of backing up dvd. This method will yield the best video quality and most movie will fit on a single cd. Divx disc cannot be played on standalone dvd player. It can only be played on a powerful pc( pII-450mhz or above) with the divx codec.
