ANY prior felony conviction regardless of whether you were placed on diversion, the record was expunged, or the conviction was pardoned will prohibit you from obtaining a concealed carry license in Kansas.

Responding "NO" to the criminal history question, when in fact you have such a record, subjects you to a charge of perjury and/or making a false writing. Both are felony offenses. You are encouraged to consult with an attorney if you have questions about your eligibility.

The current disqualifier relating to domestic violence is in conflict with federal law under provisions of the Lautenberg Act. Even though the Personal and Family Protection Act only goes back 5 years for prior domestic violence convictions, federal law prohibits possession of firearms for those convicted of certain types of misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence. Under federal law, an individual convicted of domestic violence against a spouse, former spouse, or a child (if the individual is of a parent / guardian relation to that child) falls within a permanent federal prohibition no matter when the incident took place. In short, a person convicted of domestic violence may be in violation of federal law by possessing a firearm and completing the handgun qualification course. Students in this situation are encouraged to consult an attorney.

You will need to produce a current Kansas Driver's License or Non-Driver Identification Card when attending this training. If not, know that you will be required to surrender an out-of-state license or identification card during the state licensing process.
