| CLASS NAME |
SIZE (LENGTH) |
NOTES / SOURCE |
| Akira USS Thunderchild NCC-63549 |
~ 430m |
You get different sizes trying to compare the lifeboats
(Akira vs. Sovereign) and bridge modules (again Akira vs. Sovereign); furthermore,
there are different official sources claiming to know the 'real' size, again
rangeing from 230m to 470m. Obviously, the CGI-model on DS9 was scaled down
after its first appearance on 'First Contact' and later totally out of size
compared to the two Defiants in 'Message in a Bottle', VOY. After comparing
it with other ships on 'First Contact' and later in 'A Time to Stand' I think
~ 430m is a good compromise. => Reference: 'First Contact'; 'DS9: A Time to Stand' |
| Ambassador USS Enterprise NCC-1701-C |
526m |
As stated in the Encyclopedia. (=> '1') => Reference: 'TNG: Yesterday's Enterprise' |
| 'Centaur'-type USS Centaur NCC-42043 |
~ 400m |
Difficult to say; compared with the bug ship (ans
assuming the bug's length is aruond 60m) I'd say it's not longer than 200m.
But taking into account that the saucer is obviously a small variation of
the Excelsior's which I assume is 467m long (see 'Excelsior'), the ship should
be ~ 400m long. => Reference: 'DS9: A Time to Stand' |
| Challenger USS Buran NCC-57580 |
~ 390m |
I have no idea how the ship may have looked like,
the only things for sure are that standard Galaxy-class saucers and the tower
of a Typhoon-class submarine were used to create this vessel. Allthough I
think the ship may have been larger (up to ~ 560m), I'll go for now with
the assumption the nacelles of the Challenger were the same as the ones
attached to the Galaxy-class vessel. By doing this, we get a length of ~
390m. => Reference: 'TNG: THe Best of Both Worlds', study model (parts) |
| Cheyenne USS Ahwahnee NCC-71620 |
362m |
As stated in various sources. I don't know for
sure where this comes from, but since there seems to be no larger debate
about it, this may come from the studio / the modeler. => Reference: 'TNG: The Best of Both Worlds', study model |
| Constellation USS Stargazer NCC-2893 |
~ 310m |
If the nacelles (again used for comparison) are
the same used by the Constitution (Refit) and Miranda-classes, the ship has
to be slightly larger than the Constitution-class itself. => Reference: 'TNG: Peak Performance' |
| Constitution USS Lexington NCC-1709 |
289m |
'1' => Reference: 'TOS' |
| Constitution (Refit) USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A |
305m |
'1' => Reference: 'The Undiscovered Country' |
| 'Curry'-type ( = 'Shelley-class') USS Curry NCC-45617 |
~ 320m |
Virtually nothing is known about this baby. I'm
not even sure if the Constitution-nacelles and the Excelsior-parts are of
the same scale, but for now I assume the Excelsior-parts are scaled 'right'
(Actually, my first try on it had 1:1-scaled nacelles, but from the reference
screencap it appeared the nacelles are mounted behind the saucer and are
longer than the rest of the Excelsior-class hull. This, however, was not
realizable with 1:1-nacelles, so I decided to enlarge them a bit -
you can see this if you compare them with the Constitution-class in
my chart.). Furthermore, there are at least three different sideviews of this ship, each showing the saucer in a defferent position in relation to the secondary hull. It's dificult to decide which one is the most accurate, but for now (until we get some better views on that ship or pictures) I'll take the one I think the most accurate. So please take the scaling of this ship as a very rough estimation.(BTW, the picture in the chart is my own 'kitbash', created from a Consitution and an Excelsior-class schematic. ;-) ) => Reference: 'DS9: A Time to Stand' |
| Daedalus USS Horizon NCC-176 |
~ 110m |
There's no official size available for this ship,
allthough the Encyclopedia pictures the ship at a size of approximately 110m.
I believe them (this time... ;-) ). => Study model |
| Danube USS Rio Grande NCC-72452 |
23m |
Dimensions from the DS9TM, other sources give sizes
of 19-25m. |
| Defiant USS Valiant NCC-74210 |
~ 150m |
Maybe the DS9TM's scale is a little long (170m),
comparison with other ship classes revealed sizes of 110m to 170m. The only
one really out of every scale was 'First Contact', compared with the Sovereign
at ~ 685m we'd get a 50m-Defiant. We can see two Miranda-class ship escorting the Defiant in 'DS9: Sacrifice of Angels'. Again going with same-scale nacelles of Miranda and Constitution, the Defiant's scale should be around 150m. Finding a compromise (with this episode as a reference base), I'll accept the 150m-length. |
| Excelsior USS Fredrickson NCC-42111 |
467m |
Allthough DS9TM gives a 511m-scale, other sources
such as a design sketch done by ILM for 'The Search for Spock' give a scale
of ~470m. In fact, the comparison chart done by the studio for Star Trek
III gives the length of the Excelsior as 1531 ft., which is 466.64m. The design
sketches of the Enterprise-B for 'Generations' also give a length of 467m,
furthermore the Encyclopeida accepts the scale as the official scale of the
Enterprise-B variant. But since the Excelsior itself is 467m long, the 'B'-variant
should be about 3-4m longer (because of the rear nacelle-fins and other small
modifications). => Reference: 'Ther Search for Spock', 'TNG: Encounter at Farpoint', 'DS9: Tears of the Prophets' |
| Excelsior (Refit) USS Lakota NCC-42768 |
~ 470m |
(see above) => Reference: 'Generations', 'DS9: Paradise Lost' |
| Freedom USS Firebrand NCC-68723 |
~ 225m |
A difficult decision; if the nacelles are 1:1-copies
of the Galaxy-class, the ship would be about 440m long. On the other hand
this seems impossible if we concider the fact that the connecting dorsal
is only 5 decks tall. Therefore, the ship has to be much smaller. However,
the graphic I used is from the Fact Files, there's no other detailed reference
available. In other words: We don't know if the connecting dorsal is really
only five decks tall. If it is (compared with the Defiant-class this time
which is also five decks tall), we'd get a size of ~ 225m. Until someone
shows me more accurate pictures, I simply have to assume the Fact Files had
access to material that we don't have, maybe were even able to examine the
study model. So until that point of time we get some definite answers I'll
leave a 225m-Freedom in the chart.(Despite this, if the ship really is a
destroyer, maybe a successor of the Hermes- and Saladin-classes from Franz
Joseph's Manual, a smaller ship would be more fitting.) |
| Galaxy USS Venture NCC-71854 |
642m |
I used this scale as a reference for all the other
classes (see chart). The size has officially been confirmed and is generally
accepted. => Reference: 'TNG', 'DS9: Sacrifice of Angels' |
| 'Holoship'-type Unknown NX-75115 |
~ 250m |
=> Reference: 'Insurrection' |
| Intrepid USS Bellerophon NCC-74705 |
344m |
The size has officially been confirmed and is generally
accepted. => Reference: 'VOY' |
| Miranda (various types) USS Saratoga NCC-31911 |
~ 240m |
All the different types have - if the chassis is
always the same size - the same length. Compared with the 305m-Constitution
and the ~ 150m-Defiant the ship should be around 240m. => Reference: 'Ther Wraith of Kahn', 'DS9: Sacrifice of Angels' |
| Nebula (with weapons pod) USS Endeavour NCC-71805 |
~ 440m |
The standard version of the Nebula class, compared
with McKinley station, nacelle-comparison and saucer-comparison (which are
obviously the same) with Galaxy. Every time the ship appears to be
~ 440m. The only out-of-scale appearance was 'Generations, compared with the
Miranda and Oberth, the ship was about 670m (!). => Reference: 'TNG: Redemption', 'DS9: The Changing Face of Evil' |
| Nebula (with 'dish') USS Phoenix NCC-65420 |
~ 485m |
The Phoenix-variant of the Nebula-class with the
enlarged pod should be about 45m longer than her sister ship. => Reference: 'TNG: The Wounded' |
| Nebula ('Proto-Nebula') USS Melbourne NCC-62043 |
~ 510m |
Looking at the pictures of the study model, it
seems the schematic I have is not correct. So I decided to rearrange the
nacelles (the small ones, of course) to match the model. With this new arrangement,
the ship hits the big 500; ~ 510m, to be exact. => Reference: 'TNG: The Best of Both Worlds', study model |
| New Orleans USS Rutledge NCC-57295 |
~ 350m |
Comparison of the lifeboats revealed a size of
appoximately 350m. => Reference: 'TNG: The Best of Both Worlds', study model |
| Niagara USS Princeton NCC-59804 |
~ 540m |
Assuming the base for this kitbash was the Ambassador-class
vessel (saucer, secondary hull, bridge dome), the ship should be ~ 575m.
The nacelles on the other hand appear to be Galaxy, getting a 490m-scale with
that. The nacelles are slightly out-of-scale if the main body is an Ambassador-hull.
The nacelles should be a bit smaller. I resized that part of the image to
fit with the Galaxy-nacelles and the Ambassador-body. That way, we
get a 540m-ship. The image in the chart has been altered to resemble this
modification which is obviously an error caused by the Fact Files. (Of course,
when Greg Jein built the model, he could have used parts of different scale-models
thus getting this error. I simply assume that starfleet used standard versions
of the parts available, nothing resized in any way.) => Reference: 'TNG: The Best of Both Worlds', study model |
| Norway USS Budapest NCC-64923 |
~ 340m |
The ship appeared only in the battle scenes of
'First Contact', and only in the background, so it's dificult to say how
large the ship is. Allthough DS9TM says 364m, a size of 330-340m seems to
be more reasonable after examination of the possible deck count. => 'First Contact' |
| Nova USS Equinox NCC-72381 |
~ 180m |
Determining the size of this ship is relatively
easy, we have the lifeboats, deck count and size comparison with Intrepid.
We get a size of 170-190m. Starship Spotter gives the smallest scale, 165m. => Reference: 'VOY: Equinox' |
| Nova (Refit) USS Rhode Island NCC-72701 |
~ 180m |
Allthough the ship seems to be only a minor variant
of the Nova-class, the comparison with the Negh'var-battleship shows a ship
that should be more than 400m long. On the other hand, we saw Admiral Janeway's
shuttle flying next to the ship, and it appeared to be as large as the standard-Nova
class. => Reference: 'VOY: Endgame' |
| NX Enterprise NX-01 |
230m |
The size has officially been confirmed. Since there
is no comparison, we simply have to believe it. => Reference: 'ENT' |
| Oberth USS Grissom NCC-638 |
~ 130m |
A shot of the ship seen on TNG (the shot was reused
several times) showed an overscaled Oberth, about 300m. Comparison with the
Bird of Prey doesn't make sense because I doubt there is anyone who can
tell me how large that ship really was. We have, however, the MSD deck chart.
derived from it is the size of about 165m. The cpmparison chart done for
'The Search for Spock' shows a 395 ft.-Grissom, which is 120m. Taking both
source into account, I assume the ship is ~ 130m. => Reference: 'The Search for Spock', 'TNG: The Pegasus', 'DS9: Emissary' |
| Olympic USS Pasteur NCC-58925 |
~ 330m |
Several sources seem to accept this scale. Sice
the only schematic I have (from the Fact Files) is not accurate, I can't
figure out the real size. In other words: 330m stays until I find something
better / more accurate. => Reference: 'TNG: All Good Thngs...' |
| 'Peregrine'-type (Starfleet Attack Fighter) Unknown NCC-? |
~ 25m |
No accurate refernce, allthough, comared with the
Defiant in 'DS9: Sacrifice of Angels', the ship seems smaller than the size
I accept - 25m. The only episode that shows colse-ups of the vessel is 'DS9:
The Maquis', and the ship seems to be as large as a Runabout. => 'DS9: The Maquis', 'DS9: Sacrifice of Angels' |
| Prometheus USS Prometheus NX-74913 |
~ 430m |
With the information given (deck count, lifeboats,
comparison of upper section with Defiant) we can estimate the size of the
ship to be ~ 430m. => Reference: 'VOY: Message in a Bottle', 'VOY: Endgame' |
| 'Raven'-type USS Raven NCC-32450 |
~ 100m |
Since we can' compare the ship to the cube, the
only possibility is a close look at the MSD. I estimated this size, but it
could be everything between 70m and 120m. Furthermore, the matte-painting
in 'VOY: The Raven' showed a ship that appeared to be larger. => Reference: 'VOY: Scorpion' |
| Saber/Sabre USS Yeager NCC-61947 |
~ 190m |
'First Contact' should have convince me that the
ship is >150m, but another nice shot in 'DS9: Sacrifice of Angels' showed
the ship next to te Defiant, and it was definitely larger, up to 200m. I
don't think scales over 250m are realistic, but again it it difficult to
figure out the ship's size because it never appeared in the foreground. => Reference: 'First Contact', 'DS9: Sacrifice of Angels', 'DS9: The Changing Face of Evil' |
| Scout Vessel Unknown NCC-75227 |
~ 22m |
Data's scout ship is slightly larger than Picard's
shuttle which is at ~17m. I'd say the ship is again at a similar size as
the Danube-class Runabout, ~22m. |
| Sovereign USS Enterprise NCC-1701-E |
685m |
The size has been officially confirmed. => Reference: 'First Contact', 'Insurrection' |
| Soyuz USS Bozeman NCC-1941 |
~ 245m |
Assuming the ship's nacelles and saucer section
are the Miranda's, the ship should be ~ 245m. => Reference: 'TNG: Cause and Effect' |
| Springfield USS Chekov NCC-57302 |
~ 335m |
I hate to do it because basically it's the estimation
of an estimation, but if the Cheyenne and the Springfield share the same
'marker-pen-engines', they are probably of the same size. We 'know' that Cheyenne
is 362m long, so the Springfield-class should be ~ 335m. => Reference: 'TNG: The Best of Both Worlds', study model |
| Steamrunner USS Appalachia NCC-52136 |
~ 360m |
Allthough the ship appeared to be larger in various
DS9-battles, the ship seen in 'First Contact' should be around 330m. Later
episodes showe a ship of ~ 380m (most notably 'DS9: Sacrifice of Angels')
or more. I do what I did several times, a compromise. => Reference: 'First Contact', 'DS9: Sacrifice of Angels' |
| Sydney USS Nash NCC-2010-B ;-) |
~ 225m |
The bridge dome and the nacelles seem to be of
the same size as the Constitution's, thus getting a size of 220-230m seems
reasonable. Even the awful USS Nash seems to be about 200m, compared to
DS9's docking port. => 'TNG: Relics' |
| 'Tug'-type Unknown NCC-? |
~ 150m |
It's not even clear whether this is a federation
vessel or not ('It is green.'). The Fact Files give a size of 200+ meters,
but it appears to be smaller, compared to the Excelsior-class USS Fredrickson
it is towing. => Reference: 'DS9: A Time to Stand' |
| Wells UTS Relativity NCV-474439-G |
~ 350m |
Difficult to say, very difficult. Obviuosly, there's
a MSD, but I wasn't able to find any clear picture. We have never seen another
ship together with this one. Nontheless, I heard somwhere it was as large
as Voyager. Can't remember when or where, so take this information cautiously.
I can't grant it's correctness.(If we assume the thing on top of the nose
section is some sort of cockpit window - maybe part of the bridge - the 350m-estimation
seems to be somehow correct.) => Reference: 'VOY: Relativity' |
| 'Yeager'-type USS Yeager NCC-? |
~ 340m |
Leaving out the obviuosly out-of-scale Ju'day-class
Maquis Raider we get a nice Intrepid-class saucer. Scaling it like the real
Intrepid makes this thing ~ 340m long. |
| Unknown1 Unknown NCC-? |
~ 240m |
Ship from the DS9TM; the picture shows a Constitution-class
ship without the secondary hull and nacelles directly attached to the connecting
dorsal. Until we get a photo or something similar of the ship, we have to
accept the DS9TM's drawing as the most accurate source. Allthough the pictures
of both the Curry and Centaur had to be corrected, we don't know how those
ships look like. Same for 'Unknown 2' and 'Unknown 3'. => Reference: 'DS9: Unknown' |
| Unknown2 USS Voyager NCC-73602 |
~ 440m |
Ship from the DS9TM; obviously the 'Proto-Voyager'
seen in 'The Art of Star Trek' and 'A Vision of the Future: Star Trek Voyager'.
The ship was pictured in the 'Making-of-magazine' in direct comparison with
the Enterprise-D, but obviously the magazine only used the Proto-Voyager
because it was the only top view available, hence the sice of 344m for the
ship. Going with escape-pod sizes, deck count and other things (the two guys
standing on the phylon, for example ;-) ) I was able to figure a rough overall
length of ~ 440m. Bet Janeway would have loved to get her fingers on this
baby. :-) => Reference: 'DS9: Unknown' |
| Unknown3 Unknown NCC-? |
~ 380m |
Ship from the DS9TM, an Excelsior-class kitbash,
sometimes referred to as the 'Medusa-class', with three warp nacelles and
no secondary hull.I have no idea how to sace it since the nacelles and 'saucer'
are both Excelsior style, but different scales. So this ship stays a mysterium.
Taking the nacelles as reference source, we get a ~ 365m-ship, with the
saucer we get a ~ 390m-ship. => Reference: 'DS9: Unknown' |
