ABSTRACT

Examining the aptitude of a student has always been an integral part of identifying the qualification of a student. A high school senior who wishes to enter a college or university must pass through this rigid examination. If they succeed and have the necessary documents required by the school then they are accepted.

The qualifying examination provided by Mapua Institute of Technology for incoming Architecture freshmen is standardized. A standardized type of examination simply means that an aspiring architect or engineer shall undergo the same examination. Its cut-off score shall be the basis if the student can take an architectural or engineering course. This is the focus of this research paper.

The research shall investigate the effectiveness of the presently used qualifying examination. It shall identify the difference between aptitude, interest and intelligence. Investigate which of the theories of intelligence is the most effective in determining the aptitude of incoming architecture freshmen. Furthermore, the paper shall find out if the creative and scientific aptitude be measured and determine if students who enter the architectural course have a background on architecture. The result of this study shall be used to establish the recommendations for the existing qualifying examination.
