Current Issues May, 2005: Cisco has completed the first phase of its 300 acre-campus development in Boxborough and Harvard. A soccer field, extensive sidewalks, landscaping and protection for the endangered species make it an attractive property. The card-only operated gate into Littleton County Road seem to have been effective in restricting usage to far fewer than the maximum permitted by legal agreement. (See Annual Report for 2003) Devens cleanup of AOC 57, an area on Barnum Road in Harvard potentially useful as open space is still being monitored and treated for fuel oil spill along with other areas under the BRAC Environmental Coordinator. A Devens Recycling facility for sorting and construction materials, called a C&D operation, proposed by Kurt McNamara of Consigli Construction is currently in MEPA. Details about the actual process of determining possible carcinogens are not available, nor is the process for monitoring air quality. See newspaper for hearings and DEC review. By examining our own lighting uses and evaluating how we can adjust our outdoor lighting to comply with the town lighting regulations At our program on April 19, our speaker, Bernard Kosicki, gave those who attended some valuable information about sources of lamps, shielding, and general light pollution information. Are your floodlights directed downward, not horizontally, to get the best vision and the most value from the wattage? Do the lights have shields on them to make this possible?
