Veterans Get A$$istance

The Veterans Assistance Office at Copper Mountain College (CMC), which is located within the Student Services suite of offices, is prepared to financially help military veterans with their pursuit of education.
Veterans can receive cash benefits within the range of $474 to $1,192 [based on full-time student status]. These amounts can increase or decrease based upon the number of class credits and if the veteran has dependants.
According to Jackie Smith, Admissions and Records Specialist 2, who is the Veterans Certifying Official at CMC, any veteran, retired or any prior service person that has successfully participated in an educational program while on active duty, can receive this aid for up to 36 months.
�The veteran does not have to be a current resident of the state in order to receive these benefits while attending CMC,� said Smith. But, in order to verify your qualifications and to receive monthly benefit payments, one must visit the veteran�s assistance office at the college prior to registration. With amazement and concern, Smith also stated; �Some veterans have come to me well after the semester had begun seeking assistance. It would have been better for them if I had known they were attending the college before the semester began. Because, they sometimes find out that one or more of the classes they are in, they cannot be paid for.�
Payment amounts may vary due to different criteria. Veterans have different situations, such as the type of educational program they were under during their time in service or the rating of their service connected disability the veteran may have incurred.
