Coyote Informers
-By Ann Marie German

The Copper Mountain College (CMC) journalism class (J3A) has created its own web site with the help of student Shawn Murray. The students will utilized this web site as a professional portfolio and contact page, even after they finish the course in May.

Murray suggested the class have its own official web site. Everyone thought it was a good idea, said Murray.

On March 5, the journalism students brainstormed ideas and then voted on a web site name. Majority of the votes came up with two names: Desert Informer and Coyote Howler. Nevertheless, the class combined both names and created the Coyote Informer with a picture of a coyote as the logo. The logo did not take long for Murray to draw on the computer.

This is a great idea because the class can benefit from having their own web site. The class can control their own layouts, and the students can feel freer to be involved. This way they can make changes to their own work, Murray quoted.

Murray is studying for a communication degree at CMC. She is looking forward to becoming a writer and director one day. She said that being an artist is a gift that comes natural. Murray enjoys drawing no matter what she is doing. Drawing is more than a passion, she said.

Murray was doodling since she was a toddler. She mentioned that she picked up the crayon and filled in the entire bottom part of a window as a toddler. Her mother was aware of her talent since then.

Murrays first time drawing on the computer was in the fourth grade. Her computer teacher introduced her to a program called Art Director. This program later became what we all know as MSPaint Microsoft, which is now free for everyone. Murray used AngelFire.com for web design when she was a freshman in high school. This web site had plenty of space. Today, anyone could use this web site to created and design.

The journalism students are very happy because the web site is in progress. Shawn is doing a great job, said J3A adjunct lecturer, Diana Squillace. She works on the web site in between work hours and school and study hours; her contribution is greatly appreciated by all of us including my superior in the Communications Dept. Dr. Cheyenne Bonnell, as well as Associate Dean Rodger McGinness.
