ASCMC’s President Proposal for Student Center
-By Natalie Caraballo

Associated Copper Mountain College Student President George Briggs, wants to do big things for this college and students in the near future. He has proposed a Student Center on the CMC campus to the Administration.

When asked what made him want to propose a student center to the Administration he added, “Prior to taking office I was given a lot of advice on being a leader/president. I was told to choose three things you want to accomplish for your term and stick to them, if you get them done move on. Given the “broken” nature of student government at the time I felt I had to do three things: create a foundation, obtain short term monies and fund long term projects. The Student Center was the long term project that I choose.”

The Administration is not against the Student Center they just want to be careful on how they proceed with certain things. At the moment there is no money for this project. According to Briggs, “Money to build the student center would come from the students” added Briggs, “every student who enrolls each semester would pay three dollars and it would be set aside into a growth fund that will accumulate until such time that sufficient funds can be amassed for the construction purposes of a Student Center. The funds collected after the construction of the Student Center will then go to the operation.” Most of the students at CMC, have heard of “Why Blue?” According to Briggs, it has to do with an election for the Student Center and what the students want for their school.

ASCMC Student President is trying to hold an election for the students, so that students can have a voice.

“After the election it would be decided by the Board of Trustees. They still hold the power to deny collection of the fee after a successful election,” added Briggs.

Students take the time out and support what the President is trying to accomplish. The students need to come together on April 14 in room eleven, on phase one at 3:30 pm. A total of 400 students need to vote. Please stand behind President Briggs on this important day,
