Students Want the Power
-By JoAnn Lomo

The ultimate goal of the Student Activity Membership (SAM) is student empowerment, said Aaron Kyle, a student government committee member of Copper Mountain College (CMC).
On a leadership conference at Santa Anna Community College, Kyle saw that the student government owned the campus restaurant, bookstore, ATM and vending machines.
We can do that here, Kyle said with conviction.
When the student government owns the ATM and vending machines on campus, then the fees go back to the students. Kyles vision for CMC is for it to be like other junior colleges.
Kyle explained that the fund money received from the purchase of a SAM sticker would help increase scholarship money, build a student center similar to other junior colleges, pay for leadership conferences, and allow the school to send more than two people to Washington, D.C. The funds can help the school purchase busses that may bring students to and from school. The busses could also be used for field trips and touring university campuses. Kyle says the funds will basically empower the students to build CMC what they want it to be.
Pay a $10 fee at Student Activities to receive a SAM sticker receipt. A SAM sticker is $10 per semester or $20 per year. The actual SAM sticker and ID card can be obtained at the school cafeteria. ID cards are being made there for free.
As for the businesses that donated the money for the SAM stickers, Kyle is proud to say, They are a testament to our communitywe are the future leaders of our community. This is our start, he added. Look for Aaron Kyles name as he is running for class president next semester.
