Chapter Five
I waited for the girls to powder their noses and close the door until I started sobbing.  The tears flowed freely as I thought about what Reagan had said.  It wasnt the first time Id heard most of it, but for some reason it hurt a lot more this time.  Maybe it was because all the other times, it seemed like Tay had been on my side.  This time, thoughI grabbed a handful of toilet paper and headed out to the mirror to try and make sense of my face again.  I convinced myself to stop crying, then ran the paper under my eyes and down my cheeks to catch the running eyeliner.  Thank god my mascara was waterproof.  When I was thouroughly convinced I looked human again, I left the bathroom.

Taylor was sitting on a bench outside the restaurant, waiting for me.  When he tried to rech for my hand, I tried to make it look like I was straightening my skirt.  It wasnt that I was mad at himOK, I was a little mad, but I was almost afraid of being seen with him.  The attention gets to betoo much sometimes.

That was great chicken, Taylor said as we headed for the car.

Yep, mine was good, I said halfheartedly.

Oh myis thatoh my it is, I heard a familiar voice say.  Without turning, I knew the brown-haired girl from the bathroom incident was right behind me.

Hi! Taylor said in a genuinely friendly voice.

Hi yourself!  I saw you walking out of the restaurant and it suddenly occurred to me who you were, she said.  Its nice to meet you, Taylor.  Im Emma.  She extended a hand to him, and he took it and shook it.

Its nice to meet you too, Emma, Taylor replied.  God, the way he turned on the charm completely turned my stomach.  He looked around a bit then spoke again.  Are you here all by yourself? he asked her.

No, Im actually on a date, she said, giggling.
What a fucking liarI thought.  I knew damn well that Reagan had called her to come to the resturant just so she could have this opportunity.

I just wanted to come say hey, she continued.  Youve been one of my favorite singers for like ever, she told him, her eyes wide and adoring.  I knew Taylor was just eating it up.

Thats awesome, Taylor said.  Ive gotta run, but it was great meeting you, Emma, he told her, reaching to shake her hand one more tieme.

You too, Taylor! she replied.  She glanced quickly at me, her eyes full of disproval.  She finally, after what seemed like hours, dropped Taylors hand.  I continued the walk back to the car without a word.

Taylor pushed the button to unlock the door to his midnight blue Mercedes convertible and we got in without another word spoken.  Sometimes, I could kill the kid.
