So you made it to the Cowboy of Color page and I am glad to see that you like to learn more about them.
Did you know that there were over 8000 black Cowboys in the Old West and that one out of three Cowboys that rode in the Texas cattle trails alone were African American or Hispanic? It is sad that our history books don't have too much information about that part of our US heritage included, but some people have taken the time and effort to research on these matters... The Black American West Museum & Heritage Museum in Denver, Colorado, is one of them and they have compiled a lot of information and artifacts and would be a place well worth a visit if you ever get to Denver Colorado.Kenneth Wiggins Porter. wrote a book about the "Negro on the American Frontier" and you find excerpts of of that book under Black Cowboys Pt 1, and Black Cowboys Pt 2. These excerpts give a small insight of the times and lives of the Cowboys of Color and makes mention of 2 Texas cowboys of color who were Andrew Faye of Bracketsville and Blas Payne from Big Bend, TX.
