Editorial Reviews

Review from Scamazon.com

Though purists may point to indie groups like PinDrop or One.Hand.Claps, Eulogy For A Mime, is generally credited with starting the silence-core movement. Beginning in the early '90s in the bagel shops and jai-alai courts of San Francisco, silence-core exploded into the indie rock world in 1993 with Eulogy For A Mime's powerful debut, Box and Lasso. The album consisted of 72 continuous minutes of blissful silence, and showed the group's honed mastery of not playing music. EFAM has followed up with this untitled sophomore effort, popularly known as the "Purple Album". After the brief "On The Necessity Of Killing Sherman", full of pop hooks, it launches effortlessly into their epic nine-minute "Butter As Shampoo". The track is reaching and truly shows a new maturity. "Pocket Fisherman" and "Ballad" are strong, though the reprise seems rather unnecessary. Also worth mentioning is the difficult-to-find hidden track. Eulogy For A Mime has truly silenced its critics with this powerful follow-up album. -- Jim Smith

I <3 It!, by xICaughtFirex - June 24, 2005
OMG. I never thought I'd get into silecne-core but this is great!!! EFAM is a great band!!! I love "Pocket Fisherman" but all the songs are on my ipod and you should totally dload them even if your an emo kid like me! I'm not sure how to describe their sound but imagine Dashboard Confessional without the instruments and the singing. They're that good!!!

Silence Is Golden... But Not This, by sXcFanBob - June 20, 2005
I've been on the silence-core scene for years. I have over 100 recordings, even the first pressing of AsAMouse's "lost" EP. Box and Lasso was a great independent album, but Eulogy For A Mime has really gone downhill since signing with Fear The Weasel. I liked their old, more lo-fi sound. "Butter As Shampoo" is well performed, but even with the polished recording it doesn't have the heart of their early work. If you want to hear some good silence-core, get Box and Lasso and listen to "Cutlass Supreme". It brought tears to my eyes.
