Ordered to Sioux City. Sully's Expedition against Indians in Dakota Territory August 13-September 11, 1863. Action at White Stone Hill, Dakota Territory, September 3.

April 22, 1880: Ft Niobrara, to defend Rosebud Reservation,  Niobrara River, Souix City to Valentine (just north of Johnstown) becomes "Outlaw Trail", known haven for small-time outlaws, rustlers . Big immigration due to changes in Homestead lawOpen Range: cattle, rustlers, winter of 80-81: record cold winter

Feb 23 1883 Cherry County formed, 1883 Railroad to Ainsworth built

1884-December 25, Edd is born.  at  Bronson Ranch

1884: Woodlake founded
1884/85 Jacob Jr moves to Souix City

1886- July 31, Maude is born. at Souix City. Jacob Jr is plaster.

1887 ?- Summer Hill Estates: Jacob bought a home when Edd and Maude babies and Carrie & John Lee moved in.

1887- North and west of Mullen, in Cherry County, between the Middle and North Loup Rivers, is a large section of land known as Dry Valley.  Settled by ex-confederate soldiers "
Virginia Settlement" Hire, Cherry Co. NW of Mullen. Railroad was completed as far as Mullen in 1887. A empty box car is left on a side track, which becomes a RR depot & the first building, other settlers build, and the town of Mullen is born in 1888.

+1889 Jacob moved back to ranch and took Railroad to Mullen
, Hooker County, Middle Fork Loup River.

One year on ranch 60 miles out and went broke fighting indians and rustlers, etc. (

1889, South Dakota statehood.  1889-1890 Record cold winters

1890, Dec 29, 1890, Wounded Knee, last armed conflict natives & whites, approx 50 miles west of Valentine.

Moved to Johnstown, Brown County, 100 miles away.

+1890 Move to Woodlake, Cherry County, The Partnership arrives, George and Charlie Amick

1891  June 5, Charles Sheppard, age 20, hanged Dodge County  with Christian Fuerst (multiple)

1893- John Henry Amick moves to Walnut Grove, S.D.  Located north of Niobrara River.

1897 ?- New Partnership, George and Charlie pull out, Jacobs new wife and son-inlaws arrive, "quarrel" and wife/inlaws move back to ranch at Salix.

1886: Woodlake: C. B. & Q. Railroad was built in 1886 and 1887

1898- School at Woodlake Edd is 14 and teacher Mr. Stevennon.(Stevenson), boarded w/ Grandma Dane. School District No.7 was organized and a one-room school built in 1883. A two-story frame school was built in 1895.  (See Maude Story)

Edd takes apart freight car and gets in trouble (RR?)  Mr Stevenson gets him out of trouble.

Affairs go bad, Jacob has a heart attack fighting prairie fire. Henry takes money back to wife in Souix City.

New Partnership with Henry ruined us, sold farm

1902, Jacob and family move to Walla Walla
