FIT FOR CHRIST

We’ve heard about the scientific benefits of exercise. We’ve heard that exercise will help reduce your risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes (among other chronic diseases). DID YOU KNOW THAT EXERCISE ENHANCES YOUR FAITH LIFE?!!! It’s true! The benefits of exercise go beyond the physical and into the spiritual realm! Exercise is another of God’s awesome miracles! You may have heard it said that: When divided Love miraculously MULTIPLIES! But did you know that exercise doesn’t use up your energy – Exercise miraculously ENERGIZES you! Exercise helps improves our outlook on ourselves and others. Regular exercise makes it easier for you to smile at people and gives you the energy to love and serve others – To be Christ’s hands, feet, arms and heart in the world.

Scientists previously believed that exercising 20 minutes 3x/week was enough – NEW INFORMATION teaches us that 45 - 60 minutes of exercise every day is essential to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and outlook in life. So, what are you waiting for?!  Join us as we strive to be “Fit for Christ” – that is: Fit so that we can be Christ’s light in the world. Refer to the bulletin or calendar for times.  We utilize the classroom across from the computer lab. If you are unable to workout during the currently scheduled times, then come anytime!!! There is a television, DVDs and some equipment in the room OR you can bring your own equipment and favorite workout DVD/VHS. If you have any questions or are looking for someone to workout with you – I can help! Please call me, Bird Bahnson at 205-9790 (home) or 334-5099 (cellular)

There is no time like the present! Make today a gift to yourself and those you love – come and workout!

DRAMADY

If you know someone 7-10 years of age, be sure to tell them about DRAMADY! I will be working with children during a seven week session to learn about drama and God’s Word. The theme is “Thankfulness!” and the kids will present a skit on this theme in church the Sunday before Thanksgiving. We will begin the fall session on October 1, 6–7 pm. You can learn more by calling me at 669-DORI, or by emailing me at [email protected]. Can’t wait to hear from you…AND DON’T FORGET TO LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE!                      -Dorie Janssen

SOCIAL JUSTICE

Midwife and Hospice Kits
It's always the right time to reflect on that which we can do for others. The economy in countries around the world is suffering.  Added to the economic problems are global health issues of clean water, safe births, HIV and AIDS.  We can help provide cleanliness, comfort and hope.

Christmas is right around the corner!  As you go about shopping for Christmas gifts for those you love, consider those in need around the world – remember the 'shopping list' for our Midwife and Hospice Kits Ministries.

  • ivory soap bath bars
  • toothpaste
  • toothbrushes
  • nail clippers
  • hair pics
  • petroleum jelly
  • receiving blankets
  • infant short sleeve t-shirts
  • cotton bath towels
  • cotton wash clothes
  • latex household gloves (size medium)
  • latex exam gloves
  • muslin cloth – JoAnn fabrics gets nice sale on bolts! We use 36X36 squares
  • Hand knit or crocheted baby caps – please keep caps small.

The Covenant community has been generous with their gifts of resources, time, knitting and crocheting talents and prayers.  Thank you for all that you have done and will do!

The River Pantry:
To Bring a Message of Mercy and Hope to Those in Need!

The last Friday of every month (or 4th Friday) a few members of our congregation encounter a mission trip to The River Pantry to serve people in need. This pantry and meal site is designed to primarily serve all of the low income neighborhoods concentrated along Northport Drive and the north-east side of Madison but is open to all Dane County residents. They provide pantry assistance, hot, nutritious meals and clothing. No family should go hungry, just because they cannot afford to buy food. We can impact so many lives by giving them hope. Serving the people at The River became an exchange of grace offered to us serving food - in that moment Christ ministered to us through the families that greeted us! Those who go and serve say they want to do it more often, so we offer rides for those interested.  We leave the parking lot at 4:15 pm on October 23rd. If we have too many for one vehicle, you may be asked to drive.

Sponsorship of Children Through Compassion International
We continue to sponsor three children through Compassion International. Please see information regarding these children on the youth bulletin board, including letters from the children.  Contributions can be placed in the piggy bank on the table underneath the Social Justice bulletin board. $36/month is what it takes to sponsor a child, and it makes an incredible difference in a child’s life! Please contribute!

VOLUNTEER DRIVER ESCORTS NEEDED
Area you a safe driver, willing to use your own vehicle, and can spare a few hours per week to provide an essential service to older adults in your area? Call RSVP or Dane County.

The RSVP Volunteer Escort Driver Program is designed to help adults 60 years of age and older, without access to personal transportation. Volunteers respond to requests for medical and other important trips depending upon driver availability and other community transportation resources. This service enables older adults to stay in their homes as long as possible.

Drivers are reimbursed 48 ½ cents per mile, covered with personal accident, liability and excess automobile liability insurance. The program is extremely flexible and can work around individual schedules.

More drivers are needed to meet the demand for service. If you can help, call Gene Kundert at 441-7896, e-mail him at [email protected] or contact your local Senior Center/Outreach Office.
