During the
Civil War, Jefferson Covington served as a Private in the 2nd
Tennessee Infantry Regiment, U.S.A., from 28 Feb 1862 until
he was honorably discharged on 3 Aug 1865.
He was captured
at the Battle of Rogersville, Tennessee, and confined at both Belle
Isle and Andersonville
prison camps. About two thirds of the regiment who were captured
later died in prison camp.
