The three Covington brothers who sailed on the Ark were:

  1. Thomas Covington
  2. William Covington
  3. John Covington

They do not appear on some passenger lists since they were the "gentlemen" of a Gentleman. By most accounts, Thomas remained in Maryland, while William and John settled in the Carolinas.


Some Covington's in the 1600's :

  • Nehemiah Covington. Arrived Northampton County, Virginia, in 1647. Moved to Somerset County, Maryland, in 1662. Nehemiah founded Covington's Vineyard in 1663.
  • John Covington. Also spelled Coventon. Arrived Somerset County, Maryland, in 1650. Transported to Northumberland County, Virginia, in 1652 by Mrs. Mary Brent, the wife of Capt. Giles Brent.

  • Arthur Covington. Also spelled Coventon. Transported to Northumberland County, Virginia, on November 23, 1657.

  • Thomas Covington. Arrived Somerset County, Maryland, in 1665 with his wife Ann Covington and two servants.
  • Joice Covington. Also spelled Coventon. Arrived Northumberland County, Virginia, in 1660.
  • William Covington. Born in 1666 and died July 18, 1721, in Essex County, Virginia. His wife's name was Rosamond. William was the Captain of the Militia and sub-sheriff of Essex County.
  • Henry Covington. Arrived Queen Annes County, Maryland, on February 20, 1670. Henry came with William Pettus, a London Merchant, as noted in the First Settlers List.
