Lou Angeli, a filmmaker and former firefighter, began recording rescue and recovery operations just hours after the attack on America on September 11, 2001. Along with Amy Steelman, he was also one of the first to report live on network television from Ground Zero. Without ever showing the flaming crashes, nor the collapse of the twin towers, Angeli tells the story of this nation's most horrific tragedy -- and firefighting's defining moment -- through compelling on-scene footage and stories of heroic proportion.
The controversial 9/11 documentary, that
competitors and agents attempted to suppress,
now comes to DVD in its original version.

Lou has been documenting firefighters and firefighting since 1981, and he's covered dozens of disasters and major emergencies. But nothing he'd done previously could have prepared him for the Attack on America.

Director's Note: Presented here is thenewest version of  Zero as produced for the American Film Market (2004). Other than myself, the only other contributing photogs include Kurt Sonnheim (video) and Andrea Booher (stills).
Between 2001 and 2004, other versions of this documentary were in development, and there were many, many players who assisted in preparing these proposed shows. In every case though, our partners and colleagues lost track of our mission, always attempting to make a story that wasn't our own. Our intention was never to show crashes, fires or collapse, but to focus on the rescue and recovery efforts of volunteers from across the World.
Zero to 16 is their story!
A few have said  that  Amy
and Lou were never firefighters.

I believe I can speak for Amy when I say that Zero to 16 is (and always has been) dedicated to Battalion Chief Ray Downey, who commanded the initial rescue efforts at the World Trade Center. Amy was the first to note on network television Ray's incredible contribution on 9/11/01. In short, he was responsible for saving the lives of 24,000 people. God Bless You, Chief!

"In times of horror, Angeli aims for sensitivity, not sensationalism: to provide information, not entertainment," reports James Careless in the January 2002 edition of Government Video Magazine. These stories from inside the world trade center ruins are a compelling, "must-see" for everyone whose life was changed by the events of September 11, 2001.
May 18, 2004 Update: In the wake of a federal investigation into the actions of FDNY, PAPD and NYPD emergency teams, Zero to 16 shows just how organized the response really was.
