Tuck-Ins

NOTE: These tuck-ins are very similar to a "dickie" but worn for warmth under a jacket.

Materials:

3-ply fingering weight yarn - Mens size : 3 (1 oz.) ball; Ladies and childrens sizes: 2 (1 oz.) balls; Set of 4 - No. 12 knitting needles (with points at both ends); 2 - No. 10 knitting needles.

The instructions are written for Men's size. Any changes necessary for Ladies' (L) and Children's (C) sizes are written in brackets like this: ( ).

Instructions:

Beginning with collar, with No. 12 needles cast on 120 sts. (L -112 sts.) (C - 104 sts) Divide sts. on 3 needles and join in round. Work 4 1/2 ins. (L - 4 ins.) (C - 3 1/2 ins.) in (K2, P2) ribbing, ending with 3rd needle. Turn and purl back 60 sts. (L - 56 sts.) (C - 52 sts.) Divide remaining 60 sts. (L -56 sts.) (C - 52 sts.) on 2 needles and leave for front bib. Turn.

Change to No. 10 needles and working on first 60 sts. (L - 56 sts.) (C - 52 sts.) proceed: -

To make back bib:

1st ROW: Cast on 18 sts. (L - 16 sts.) (C - 14 sts.) for one shoulder. Knit to end of row. Cast on 18 sts. (W - 16 sts.) (C - 14 sts.) for other shoulder. 96 sts. on needle. (L - 88 sts.) (C - 80 sts.)

2nd ROW: K 6. Purl to last 6 sts. K 6.

3rd ROW: Knit. Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows for 4 ins. (L - 3 3/4 ins.) (C - 3 1/2 ins.) or desired length, ending with 3rd row. Knit 8 rows garter st (plain knitting every row). Cast off loosely.

To make front bib:

Slip remaining sts. onto one No. 10 needle. With right side of work facing, join yarn and cast on 18 sts. (L - 16 sts.) (C - 14 sts.) for one shoulder. K 20. (L - K 18) (C - K 16) which includes cast-on sts. of shoulder. Turn.

2nd AND ALTERNATE ROWS: Slip 1st st. Purl to last 6 sts. K 6.

3rd ROW: K 22. (L - K 20) (C - K 18) Turn.

5h ROW: K 24. (L - K 22) (C - K 20) Turn.

7th ROW: K 26. (L - K 24) (C - K 22) Turn.

9th ROW: K 28. (L - K 26) (C - K 24) Turn.

11th ROW: K 30. (L - K 28) (C - K 26) Turn.

13th ROW: K 32. (L - K 30) (C - K 28) Turn.

15th ROW: K 78. (L - K 72) (C - K 66) Cast on 18 sts. (L - 16 sts.) (C - 14 sts.) for other shoulder. 96 sts. on needle. (L - 88 sts.) (C - 80 sts.)

16th ROW: K 6. (all sizes) P 14. (L - P 12) (C - P 10) Turn.

17th AND ALTERNATE ROWS: Slip 1st st. Knit to end of row.

18th ROW: K6. P16. (L - P14) (C - P12). Turn.

20th ROW: K6. P18. (L - P16) (C - P14) Turn.

22nd ROW: K6. P20. (L - P18) (C - P16) Turn.

24th ROW: K6. P22. (L - P20) (C - P18) Turn.

26th ROW: K6. P24. (L - P22) (C - P20) Turn.

28th ROW: K6. P26. (L - P24) (C - P22) Turn.

30th ROW: K6. Purl to last 6 sts. K6.

31st ROW: Knit. Repeat 30th and 31st rows until work measured at center front in 9 3/4 ins. (L - 9 1/2 ins.) (C - 9 1/4 ins.) or desired length, ending with 31st row. Knit 8 rows garter st. Cast off loosely. Sew shoulder seams. Press lightly.
