Materials:

Knitting Worsted Yarn -2 - 2 oz. Balls Main Colour (B); 1 - 2 oz. Ball Stripe Colour (A); 2 - No. 8 knitting needles; 2 - No. 6 knitting needles.

Instructions:

With (B) and No. 8 needles case on 96 sts. And work 4 ins. (K2, P2) ribbing.

Change to No. 6 needles and proceed: -

1st DEC ROW: K14, K2tog) 6 times. Purl 1 row, knit 1 row, purl 1 row. Do note break (B). Join (A) and continue in stocking st for 4 more rows. Break (A).

2nd DEC ROW: (K2tog, K7) 10 times. Work 7 rows even.

3rd DEC ROW: (K6, K2tog) 10 times. (70 sts. on needle) Work 3 rows even. Join (A) and work 4 more rows. Break (A).

4th DEC ROW: (K2tog, K5) 10 times. (60 sts. on needle) Work 11 rows with (B) then 4 rows with (A) after this and each of the following decreasing rows.

5th DEC ROW: (K10, K2tog) 5 times.

6th DEC ROW: (K2tog, K9) 5 times.

7th DEC ROW: (K8, K2tog) 5 times.

8th DEC ROW: (K2tog, K7) 5 times.

9th DEC ROW: (K6, K2tog) 5 times.

10th DEC ROW: (K2tog, K5) 5 times.

11th DEC ROW: (K4, K2tog) 5 times.

12th DEC ROW: (K2tog, K3) 5 times. (20 sts. on needle)

When the 15 rows have been worked after 12th decreasing row, with (B), proceed: -



1st ROW: (K2, K2tog) 5 times. Work 7 rows even.

9th ROW: (K2tog, K1) 5 times. Work 6 rows even.

16th ROW: (P2tog) 5 times. Break yarn. Thread end through remaining sts. Draw up and fasten securely. Sew up back seam. With (A), make and sew a tassel to end, if desired.

To make tassel:

Cut a piece of cardboard 4 ins. wide and length of desired tassel. Wind yarn 50 times around the length. Break yarn, leaving an end about 6 ins. Long and thread end through a blunt-ended needle. Slip needle through all loops on cardboard and tie yarn tightly at one edge. Slip off cardboard and wind yarn several times around loops 1 1/4 ins. from one fold. Draw needle through top and sew tassel in position. Cut through other fold and even off ends.
