WEAPONS
Historically Federal Sharpshooters were armed with a variety of rifles during the war. Some of the weapons are more famous than others but all were important tools in the deadly work of Sharpshooting.  The two most common types of rifles used by Sharpshooters were the civilian made Target/Sporting Rifle and Sharps Infantry Rifle. However, other rifles such as the Springfield, Enfield, Spencer, Henry, Merrill, Colt and Mississippi were used in varying degrees.
Weaponry for the various Sharpshooting organizations can be a bit tricky to acquire and expensive.  Since we try to portray multiple units we do eventually acquire more than one rifle. However, we understand the expense of these weapons is high and therefore we suggest that a new rifleman chooses either a Sharps Rifle or Plains(target) Rifle as his first purchase. The Sharps Rifle would be the preferred rifle to start but they are a bit pricey. Before you make a purchase please consult with us to make sure that you do not waste time and money on a rifle which is not suitable for use..

Other military arms can and are used in the execution of our duties. Such rifles are Springfields, Enfields and Mississippis. It all depends on the scenario which the event is portraying. As a general rule we like to see our riflemen armed with at least one of the rifles referred to earlier in the page.
TELESCOPIC RIFLES
Wesson box lock rifle
Reproduction brass telescopic sight
Telescopic sighted rifles were in use in all theaters of the war from start to finish. The only trick to properly fitting a period style telescopic sight to a rifle is having proper steel mounts as opposed to the brass ones supplied with the scope. Please take your time when trying to find a suitable rifle to fit a telescopic sight upon. If in doubt please ask one of us before you make the purchase.
