Band Bio
Counterweight formed in September of '00 when former bassist Gordon Schrenk called up guitarist Kyle Benson
and asked if he wanted to join a ska band with saxophonist Joey Buhta and former lead singer Joann Htut. They
called their new found band, Snocore. Later on though, due to problems with the band and mixed styles Joann
left. Gordon took up lead vocals and they hired trumpeter Mike Gould. Snocore played a couple of practices with
former drummer Craig V. but due to problems with the band he left also. After a local concert attended by Kyle
and Gordon they decided that Snocore's horn section would be better if they had a trombone and Jon Wentz was
brought in. Later it was decided that Snocore should get a name change, they finally settled on Counterweight.
That winter they found drummer Bob Fiedler and started practicing and writing songs. Then on Feb 6th
Counterweight played their first show at Jitters with several other bands whose bass players were students of a
teacher. They also played another gig there before Ben (the bass teacher) was kicked out of Jitters.
Counterweight had been good friends with another local band from Richfield, Random. They invited Counterweight
to play a show with them at Holy Grounds in Prior Lake. Counterweight was scheduled to play at The Quest for an
amature show, but a week before their show Gordon told the band he was quiting to start solo work. Stunned and
badly injured without their lead singer and bassist, Counterweight decided to move on and continue to play
together. After a summer of searching for a new bassist they found Brandon Madsen, who provided the band with the bass groove they had been missing for a while. Counterweight is now on the great quest for a singer and they hope to find that perfect blend again and get back to
doing what they do best: bringing in 'da noise and brining in 'da funk.
