| The Alabama High School Graduation Examination or AHSGE This examination is required for all students receiving a standard or advanced diploma in Alabama. It is offered four times a year - summer, fall, midwinter, and spring with some administrations restricted to certain groups of students (see calendar below). The test is divided into 5 sections - Reading, Math, Language, Science, and Social Studies. The test is untimed and only one section is administered per school day. Testing Calendar for 2002 - 2003 School Year Summer 2002 (Seniors Only) Fall 2002 (Seniors, Juniors who have previously missed the test, Students who completed Algebra I, Algebra IB or Biology the previous semester) Midwinter 2002 (Seniors Only) Spring 2003 (All 10th graders, Juniors, and Seniors) The ACT This test is required by many colleges for students to be accepted into their institutions. Often there is a minimum test score requirement that varies from college to college. ACT test scores are often used by colleges to help determine eligibility for scholarships. It is the student's responsibility to check with the college they plan to attend to verify testing and entrance requirements. There is a $25 fee to take the test. Registration packets are available in the school counseling office or the student may go on-line at www.act.org with a credit card and register. The registration packet or on-line registration must be completed by the student by the postmark registration deadlines shown below.
