| What do I need to do to get into the college of my choice? 1) take the most rigorous subjects in high school that you can reasonably pass. 2) Make your Junior year in high school your toughest academically. It is the last grades that are entered on your high school transcript that is mailed to colleges to which you are applying.the fall of your senior year 3) Take the ACT/SAT for the first time by at least the end of your Junior year. 4) Do volunteer and community service work all four years of high school. 5) Submit your college applications as soon as you can. Check to see if your college has and prefers an on-line application. Fill out the application in black ink if its paper and read the directions carefully following them precisely. 6) Many applications require an essay. Think creatively about an origional topic. Check your work for spelling and grammar errors (have someone else read it over). Use clear concise language and organize the structure of your essay carefully. 7) Follow up on your application. Many colleges send a confirmation card in the mail. If you don't receive one within a couple weeks of submission call. 8) Ask your counselor to mail your high school transcript as soon as you submit your college application. Provide her with the college address. 9) Make plans to have a college interview. Dress for the occasion and come prepared with a few relevant questions to ask of the interviewer. After the interview send a Thank You note to the interviewer. You may ask for the interviewers business card at the end of the interviewer.
