Welcome To Cotton County
WaltersThe county seat of Cotton County is Walters, which was established on December 9, 1901. It was originally named McKnight, after a Major McKnight, who was the government registrar of the land office in Lawton. That name lasted only a few months. One group called the town Walters, named after William R. Walter, who was a prominent local resident and one of the three original town site commissioners. However, the post office and train depot were officially known as Walter. An Act of Congress on June 23, 1917, officially changed the name of the post office to Walters.
