Our aim is to make your stay as warm and welcoming as possible whilst helping to reduce our impact on the environment.
The National Green Scheme
This is an accreditation scheme for tourism businesses relating to environmental good practice. Cottage Farm was awarded Silver in 2007 "Very Good Environmental Practices". Here are just a few of the measures we have put in place:
- Reduced water pressure - Low energy lighting - Use of recycled toilet paper, kitchen towel and tissues - Use of organic, Fair Trade and green products - Recycling glass, plastic and paper - Food and garden waste composting - Development of a wildlife haven / conservation area
In previous years we took part in the Herefordshire Nature Trust scheme which ran for 4 years and we acheived a Gold Wildlife action award for our three acres of conservation which includes a naturally occuring pool, and the planting of fruit tree species which would have been native to Hereford in 1880's. Sadly the scheme no longer runs but conservation continues and protecting our field which has not changed since 1770.
Flavours of Herefordshire
The October Food Festival takes place in Hereford each year which includes a competition called the "Flavours of Herefordshire". This competition promotes the use of products grown and sourced within a 20 mile radius. In 2007, Cottage Farm was a "Breakfast" finalist in the competition. |
