FINDING THE DONOR CAR
Being the persistent bugga I am I would only accept one engine
choice for my Rush, which invariably made my life a lot more difficult than it needed to
be (scenic route remember) as a V8 would be far more driveable and far easier to
attain like a 'turboless' engine. But none the less I pressed on with my mission.
The primary problem was to find a suitable donor car (for the
running gear parts) and a complete, 'fresh' Cosworth engine (including gearbox and
ancillaries like the wiring harness).
Having looked throughout the country and seen a number of engines
(at ridiculous prices I might say) and received a lot of bogus information, I was ready to
shelve the project once again (which would have been MUCH cheaper).
However, as is often the case with these sorts of projects, lady
luck still had her say in things! So after having criss-crossed the country, I was
at my local scrappy's looking for some parts for my brothers car with my dad when......
.....In hindsight I suspect that Marco (scrap yard proprietor) must have been eavesdropping on the conversation
I was having with my dad, as I had only just finished telling him that I was going to
give-up on the project, as I couldn't find a Cosworth donor engine, when Marco butted in
to tell us that he may have 'something of interest' for me and that I should go have a
look round the back of the warehouse.
I couldn't believe what I saw when I walked round the back of the
warehouse.... a Cossie (as can be seen in the pictures below):

My project could now go ahead! But wait, where are the engine and
gearbox and how much would I have to pay for the 'COMPLETE' car as I need so many parts?
We agreed a price (very reasonable) and what I bought reads as
follows:
A 1988, white, four door Ford Sierra Cosworth (red top with 4*4
exhaust manifold) that had covered 155.000 kilometres and was, as far as I could trace,
imported into Holland in 1995 (probably from Germany).
The reason for its sorry state, was that the car had been stolen
& recovered after the thieving b*&t$ds had not only crashed the car, but had
also nicked off with the seats and the ECU. After this episode, the car was only fit for
the scrap yard (luckily for me) and to be resurrected as the heart of my pocket rocket!
