marriage a legal one. From that time
to wit from the day of August 1788
as aforesaid, they were together as man
and wife, and continued so to live until
after the birth of all of their chil-
dren, being since twelve or fourteen
years, when the declarant and her
said husband Robert Mursh attached
themselves to the Christian Church
of the Baptist denomination; and
then in order to conform to the
customs of the white inhabitants and
the Christian Church to which
we have connected ourselves, our
marriage was solemnized by a
member of the Church of which
we have become members, as
stated in the testimony of John Marsh
my son. But this as before stated
was some twelve or fourteen years
after our formal marriage accord-
ing to the rites & customs of the
Nation of Indians to which we
then belonged. Robert Mursh
my aforesaid husband died on the
fourth day of December, One Thousand Eight
Hundred Thirty Seven. That she
was not married to him prior to his
leaving the service, but the marriage
took place prior to the First day of
January (1794), One Thousand Seven
Hundred and Ninety Four, to wit the
time above stated.
