Are you using degreaser on your wheels?
Corvettes since the mid seventies up to 1999 models have aluminum and alloy wheels that were polished or painted with a clearcoat finish for protection. This clearcoat finish is very similar to the clearcoat finish on the body of the car. Would you use a harsh degreaser or solvent on the body paint? Mild detergent or car wash are the only cleaners that you should use to clean your wheels. To keep brake dust and other contaminants from sticking to your wheels use a polish and wax just as you would on the body. It is time consuming but well worth it. To maintain the shine use a quality furniture spray wax (try not to get any on the brake rotors) on the wheel AND the tires. It leaves a clean natural looking shine on the tire as well!
