05-08-1969
The most moving accident for the personnel of the range took place on this day.
At the end of the morning a F-104G from volkel airbase dived to strafe on the targets.But in stead of
firing on the targets , he mistakenly fired with his 20mm cannon on the 2 trucks of the 5 crew members who had to repair te targets.Evert de Haan was hit in his belly and died in the hospital.Three others were hit in the leggs and thigh.The fifth member by a miracle did`t hurt.

After finishing his excercises a Belgian F-104G Starfighter ser.no.FX-49 from Kleine Brogel vanished in sea.The last thing what was seen of the Starfighter was a red glow of fire.The pilot didn`t survive.

30-09-1970
Again a Belgian Starfighter the FX-42 who crashes into the Nortsea.Pilot killed.

20-09-1971
Due to an engine failure , a Starfighter,the D-8267 from 311 squadron of Volkel airbase crashed into sea.The pilot , Elt Scholten used his ejection seat and was rescued by a passing ESSO oil tanker.

25-06-1973
On its way to the Vliehors , a British Phantom FGR.2 ser.noXV440 from 31 Sqn. based in Bruggen , Germany , crashed.The aircraft exploded between the dike and the Vliehors.Both pilots were killed.

19-08-1974
During dusk flying , a F-104G the D-6682 from the 312th squadron of Volkel hit the water during a bomb run.The pilot mannaged to pull up the plane and flew to the main land but had to bail out because the operating system didn`t functioned anymore.The pilot was picked up from the local pub near the crash site and brougt back to Leeuwarden airbase.

On his way back to Volkel the pilot of an F-104G ser.noD-6698 from 311 Squadron , has to use his ejection seat.15 minutes later he was picked up by a SAR helicopter.

06-04-1977
Practicing with practice bombs , a Belgian F-104G FX-06 from Kleine Brogel crashed into the dunes.About 300m2 of dunes burned down.The unfortunate pilot didn`t survive the crash.

02-06-1977
As the last of an formation of 4 German F-104G`s from MFG2 , Eggebeck , the plane the 26+77 crashed due to a unknown reason into sea.Pilot was killed

24-01-1978
After some excercises a fourship formation of F-104G`s headed back to their homebase Volkel.
After the radio contact broke a search began for the lost Starfighter the D-8343 from 312 Sqn, but the plane was found oud one week later by a rented fishing boat.The pilot was killed.

02-08-1978
On its way to Vlieland during dusk flying , a Belgian F-104G ser. no.FX-91 crashed into the IJsselmeer.The pilot from the 23th Squadron from Kleine Brogel airbase was killed.

10-03-1980
On its way to the range for a second bombrun , the first Dutch F-16 the J-216 from TCA Leeuwarden crashed into the IJsselmeer.The reason why is unknown.Due to very heavy weather the F-16 was found after 3,5 hours.The pilot didn`t survive the crash.
