Founding of Harvard and Yale- (1636) Harvard founded to educate ministers because of the scarcity of clergy and lack of an educational institution in the new colonies.

First Continental Congress-(September 1774) met in Philadelphia to consider the Intolerable Acts -- issued the Declaration of Rights and Grievances to George III: called for Continental Association and agreement to boycott trade with Britain; committees of safety were in charge of enforcing the Continental Association; before adjourning, the delegates agreed to meet for the second time:

Second Continental Congress-(May 10, 1775) Philadelphia too (and for some reason I can't type that right the first time); drew up the Olive Branch Petitoiin (begged George II to restore peace) and adopted a Declaration of Casus and Necessity for taking up arms; Congress was divided into pro-war and anti-war factions.

Railroad strike of 1877-(1877) in response to 10% wage cuts by the four largest RR companies, President Hayes called in federal troops and strikes spread through the cities; over 100 died, and the RR strike failed anyway.

Coal strike of 1902-(1902) tested the Square Deal for labor; 140,000 workers demanded a 20% pay increase and a reduction fo the work day from 10 to 9 hours; TR threatened to run the mines with federal troops; compromise: 10% pay increas, 9-hour work day; Dep't. of Commerce and Labor (1903).

Pullman Strike-(1894) [I don't really understand my notes on this one] Pullman palace car? to cut wages 1/3 and hold on to rent for company housing in town near Chicago; strikers overturned cars, strike was crushed by federal troops and the leaders of the strike were sentenced to prison.

Seizing of the Iranian assets after the hostage crisis- failed: underscored the nation's helplessness and even incompetence in the face of a mortifying insult to the national honor; stalemate with Iran dragged on.

Defeat of the Treaty of Versailles- okay, I must have been really tired when I got to this one, because all I have written down is "...lead to WWI?"...I must have been on crack.  Actually, it was a peace document signed at the END of WWI by the Allied and Associate Powers and by Germany in the Hall of Mirrors at the palace of Versailles, France, on June 28, 1919, requiring Germany to pay reparations.  It took effect on January 10, 1920.  If you want more you can look it up yourself.
