| The conversion isn't all that hard to do. It's mostly just taking stuff of the bike. It can probably be done on any of the following models: VF1000F VF750F VF700F VF500 |
||||||||||||||||||
| Remove the fairing and fairing mount. Disconnect the gauges. (They'll present a problem later) You'll need a CB750 Style headlight bucket and headlight. They make aftermarket ones. You can sometimes find them on E-bay. Try to get the headlight with the H4 designation. Those have a removable bulb. The others are one-piece sealed so that if the bulb blows you have to replace the whole thing. | ||||||||||||||||||
| The hardest part of the conversion is figuring out which electrical lines go where and getting them in the headlight bucket. You have to stuff pretty much everything in the bucket. There should be two connectors outside of the bucket. Make sure that when you jam all of the wires you connect the bulb last. | ||||||||||||||||||
| Next, you'll need a pair of those chrome headlight mounts. They are like ears that clamp onto the fork tubes and mount to either side of the headlight. You can get them Here Mount your headlight bucket to the forks with these. | ||||||||||||||||||
| The next tricky part is figuring out what you want to do with your gauges. I had a special bracket machined to hold the stock gauge cluster, but it looked really crappy. I then glued a piece of plastic to it to cover up the underside. It looked better, but still kind of tacked on. No gauges look best, but you can get an aftermarket Daytona tach from Lockhart Phillips and an aftermarket speedo from JC Whitney. Temp guages can be found Here . Still a bracket of some sort needs to be fashioned. The VF700 has a mechanical speedo and the mechanical spedo that you can get from JC Whitney ($~45) Can mount to the inside tube part of the clip ons (see below) | ||||||||||||||||||
| The clip ons can also be found Here. You need to find out what the diameter of your fork tubes is (It's 39mm on the VF700 and 750). Pro Flo has the lowest prices for clip ons and the guys are really nice. | ||||||||||||||||||
| The cool thing about this conversion is that if you neglect the first rule of motorcycle customization (Keep evrything!) You can sell all the parts you take off the bike on E-Bay and the conversion doesn't cost you a dime! | ||||||||||||||||||
