1. Get the brackets and compressor for the type used by the factory on your
engine for AC. Bolt all the brackets compressor. Install the belts to the stock
configuration.
2. Connect the intake side to a clean air intake. Either use your air filter, or
a universal small engine type filter.
3. Connect the output side to a standard air compressor (110-120 volt switch)
pressure regulator switch. This can be mounted on the compressor or a remote
tank or line on the high pressure side. You can purchase one of these as a
replacement from a hardware store, or Harbor Freight. The price for this will
run you about $25-30.
4. Bring in a 12v power from the positive side of the battery. Use a 14 gage wire,
or from a ignition switched side (best) Install a separate on-off switch in line
before it goes to the pressure switch. This can be inside the vehicle or under the
hood. You do not want to run the compressor when you don't need it.
5. Connect the electric clutch control wire (single wire from coming from the clutch
on the compressor) to the other side of the pressure switch.
6. Bring the high pressure output side air to a tank or to a quick disconnect
located at a easy to get location on your vehicle.
Special Notes:
GM Types (Frididgaire) with a small lump on one side.
Put this down at a position that you can get to. This has a special bolt with
a O-ring on it, this is your oil access point. With the system bleed of this
pressure, use motor oil. (3-5 squirts of oil in the bolt hole). This should be
done after every 2-3 hours of use. It is good to also drop only 3-4 in the intake
at the same time.
The engine should not be running above 1,200 when used as a compressor.
A hand control throttle will allow you to do this with out holding
your foot on the gas. The universal twist and lock type at Napa cost about
$15-$18. It is not necessary to go above an idle for airing tires. If you want
to run air tools a tank in line works best.
York and other type.
This can be mounted in any of the 3 sides. Vertical is vest. The York does
not have the volume of air at a idle as the GM type the total pressure is
way more than you can use. The engine should not be running above 1,200
when used as a compressor. A hand throttle used to bring the speed up to
about 900 to 1000 RPM's is best. The universal twist and lock type at Napa
cost $15-$18. The center bolt in the middle of the case is the oil.
