Greetings Fellow Earthlings,
Happy New Year, and Happy New Year to all those wonderful ETs out there too - who incidentally ruined the joke by changing their name to WOCNs. It just doesn't have the same ring does it, but I guess they got tired of feeling alienated. Read on though fellow creatures, the pun continues...
I enjoy giving the newsletter some continuity so here's the story for this month's articles. We begin the story with a warning: Beware of antacids. Well habitual use anyway. It seems that it can inhibit calcium absorption in your body - among other things. Why should you be worried about calcium? I'm glad you asked because the how and why is covered in the next article.
Ok, time for a tricky segue. We move from absorption of calcium to absorption of drugs (sorry we only cover medicinal varieties.) What you wash that pill down with can have a huge impact on the efficacy and absorption of the drug into your body. From here we have an easy step to what ostomates should know about medication. It's just a short piece but the author points out a few gotcha's.
Well with all the talk of medication, it is just natural to switch to the biggest reason for (self) medication at this time of year - the dreaded flu. And with the flu comes the dreaded diarrhea. So just to keep you safe lots of tips, a cure (at least some tips for rehydration a.k.a. how to keep from drying up and blowing away) and even a few self help tips on what you should really be seeing a heath professional about. And more recovery tips.
Well, one thing that seems to happen with excessive diarrhea is the faceplate wants to fall off more quickly. Which brings is to the next topic. More reasons for short wear times and what you can do. By the way one of the things is to try different products because sometimes your body seems to get tired of your "Old Faithful Standby, Always Worked For Me". Which gives me the perfect opportunity to plug this month's meeting - a product fair where you can see what's new and maybe get a sample to try out.
After all this talk of under the weather a final ray of sunshine we end with Robert Louis Stevenson's daily dozen recommendations for a living remember life is for living and the only one who can live yours is you.
Until next time,
Stay well
Bob
