Duet in a Minor Key

This story is my new baby, told in alternating points of view.  Erik is of course the dear Phantom that we all love and adore, only his life is updated to today.  He has already lived through events that were narrated more or less faithfully by Gaston Leroux but that was five years ago.  Sorcha is an American girl who has been wandering Europe for three years, living the life of a gypsy.  When they meet, their fascination with each other is silent, but mutual.

Chapter 1: Sorcha  Sorcha having just arrived in Paris makes her way to  Garnier's Opera House.  She wishes to explore it on her own, and manages to escape the tour group to do so.

Chapter 2: Erik   While wandering the opera Erik spies the young gypsy and finds her  and interesting light in his dark boring life.  He follows her on her explorations.

Chapter 3:  Sorcha  Sorcha finds the stage, her first goal, but is spotted by the tour guide who chases her under the stage.  Then, seeming frightened the guide tries to get her back above the stage, quickly.

Chapter 4: Erik  Still following Sorcha, Erik determines that he has been too lonely for too long and will speak to her.  But she is chased off by Mimi before that can happen and makes her way under the stage, where he decides to make his presence known, in usual fashion.

Chapter 5: Sorcha  True to her usual courage and intuition, Sorcha is not scared off by the Opera ghost no matter how he tries.  Indeed, sensing a deep sadness she makes a bizarre suggestion

Chapter 6: Erik  Erik's point of view on their first encounter and the first half of the trip to Erik's home.

Chapter 7: Sorcha  Sorcha follows Erik through the labyrinth of scenery storage to his home across the lake.  While on the lake she gets a nasty surprise that reveals more hints of Erik's past.

Chapter 8:  Erik  Erik muses on his past and gets just a bit wrapped up in it.  He makes a decision not to let his moodiness affect his guest again and begins to show her about his home.

Chapter 9: Sorcha  Sorcha tours more of Erik's home, and tensions start to relax a bit as Erik reveals exactly why Sorcha tumbled down the stairs and tripped on the rope.

Chapter 10: Erik  Erik's view of the rest of the tour of his home.  Also, Sorcha reveals that she is a singer and sings for Erik for the first time, despite her injuries.

Chapter 11: Sorcha  Sorcha gets aquatinted with her room and moves in the few personal belongings Erik allows her to retrieve from her pack.

Chapter 12: Erik  Erik works on adjusting to his house guest and the differences between Sorcha and Madeline.

Chapter 13: Sorcha  Sorcha finally gets her bath and dinner, and truly begins to reflect on the strange situation that she has gotten herself into.

Chapter 14: Erik  Erik spends a sleepless night trying to adjust to Sorcha's presence in his home and thoughts, and finally distracts himself with preparations for their lessons.

Chapter 15: Sorcha  Sorcha's first taste of Erik's passionate music and her first, frustrating, music lesson.

Chapter 16: Erik  Sorcha's first lesson completed.  Erik realizes simultaneously both the Sorcha is his friend and that he loves her.

Chapter 17: Sorcha  Sorcha's first full day in Erik's home.  We get a glimpse of Sorcha's troubled past and discover the routine they will share for the week.

Chapter 18: Erik  Erik refuses to dwell on Sorcha's eminent departure until he can no longer ignore it, and he is not pleased.
