Adaptive equipment  tools are designed to aid patients, enabling them to lead more independent lives.  Reachers are used to pick up objects.  Often patients only have the use of one hand and thus need help putting on and buttoning up a shirt.  These tools and many others can help patients lead more satisfying lives, reducing dependency on others for help.

Utensils like these have much larger handles than usual.  This makes them much easier to grip.  The knife with the unusual handle works for people with bad shoulders which have limited mobility.  The head of the fork on the left swivels so that someone who is not able to rotate their wrist can still eat on their own.
