As I am a female police SGT. & married to a police CHIEF, I know the dangers that
   we face daily when we put on our badges, kiss our 3 kids goodnight, & head out to
   protect the streets. We faced a grave loss this year when we lost one of our own. SGT.

   On October 15th, 1991, The National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial was dedicated.
   Inscribed on the Memorial's marble walls are the names of more then 13,500 men & women
   who have died in the line of duty.

   "There are several memorials that stand in silent tribute to the many city, county, state & federal officers who have given there lives to
   protect and guide all of us from harms way. The mourning bands & ribbons reflect our own solemn responsibility to honor &
   remember forever, those who will never return & to help their loved ones left behind.............
                                   ...........& the children."

   "Too often tthe cruelty of realism is unfairly thrust upon the young. Their loss of innocennce reflected in lonely cries, breaks the
   silence of night but will fade with the glimmering approach of the new dawn. No bells toll for them, their names will never be on a
   wall, no solemn ceremonies with honor guards & bagpipes, but they too have made the ultimate sacrifice.
   We must remember to care more than others think is wise & to give without asking for anything in return. If you are honest &
   try your best, you will often be blessed with reward.
   As an unknown author once said, "Do not wait my friend... for upon the Fields of Hesitation, lay the countless bleached bones
   of the good intentions of mankind, who upon the threshold of achievement, waited, while waiting, ...wasted & died."

   "The Fallen Officer's Family Ribbon" -the colors represent the following-

   * Black represents the death of the officer;
   * Purple represents the heart of the fallen officer;
   *Rainbow Colors represnet the surviving family members;
   * The Gold "V" stands for Valor & represents the valor of the fallen officer & the
    extreme sacrifice made on behalf of the citizens served.

   "Greater love then this no man hath than that he lay down his life for his friend."
