THE HACKER
A few months ago, almost completely out of the blue, Valve Software announced that it would release a sequel to it's ground-breaking first person shooter, Half-Life. To the amazement of gamers around the world, Valve had been working on it already in secret, and the majority of the project was completed. The release date was set in September 2003, months before any of the other next-generation shooters, namely Doom 3, were to be released. However, as with most major programming projects, there were numerous setbacks, and the release date was delayed until early-mid 2004.
Most were content to wait, understanding that the engines Valve was designing, and the overall size of the entire project was simply mind-boggling. Some, though, were not.

A hacker infiltrated Valve, and stole not only secret game info and early alphas, but the source code as well, something that was licensed out to other developers for a large fee, which, in turn generated huge amounts of income for Valve. This, in turn, created even more setbacks for Valve, as they had to inspect and repair all of their security features.
So now, the world awaits the release of the beta, which will signify that production is very nearly completed. Currently, and without further setbacks, the game will be released after the beginning of 2004. It is set to ship with development tools included, s o hat the mod industry that half-life so revolutionized years ago, will have another game with a new engine, to modify and change so that gamers may enjoy new material and what are, essentially, new games, for years to come.

The wait is nearly over, and information is continuously released on a day-to-day basis. This site was compiled from information given out by the developer, as well as from numerous other fan sites.
