| Preserve Childrens lives: Take 1 large grass field, 1/2 dozen children, 2-3 small dogs, a pinch of brook and some pebbles. Mix the children and the dogs together well and then put them together in the field, stirring constantly. Pour the brook over the pebbles, sprinkle the field with flowers, spread over the deep blue sky and bake in the hot sun. | Canned Pumpkin | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Wash pumpkin, remove seeds and pare. Cut into 1" cubes. Place in large sauce pan or dutch oven. Add water to cover, bring to a boil. Pack hot cubes into jars, leaving 1/2' head space. Add 1/2 tsp salt to pints, 1 tsp salt to quarts, If desired a pinch of allspice. Cover with the boiling hot cooking liquid. Place lids and rings an jars and process in a pressure canner. Process pints 60 minutes, quarts 80 minutes, at 10# of pressure. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Dinner in a pumpkin | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Cut top off of 1 medium pumpkin and remove seeds and stringy material, bake pumpkin for 20-25 min.in 1" of water. While it is baking cook 1.5 lbs of ground beef in a skillet to the ground beef add 1 diced onion -1/2tsp-1tsp of sage and 1-2 cloves of minced garlic. When the meat is completely cooked add 1 large tomatoe cut into large cubes and 1 cup of sliced mushrooms add 2 cups of cooked rice. Place the ground beef mixture into the pumpkin and bake for 30 minutes at 350 depending on the pumpkin it may or may not be done at his point if not done continue baking checking every 10-15 minutes. Be careful if you remove from the pan that it was baked in as the bottom will be very soft. I usually put a large pie pan under the pumpkin and then put that into a baking pan to cook it. That way you can serve it in just the pie pan. For a meatless version fill the pumpkin with steamed vegetables instead of the hamburger the proceed as above. |
